Hey guys,

Starting to build my cage and just wondering if Its okay to rub stain the wood after I build, like how most cabinets are stained.

Im thinking maybe the stain could make him sick if he comes in contact with it?

Should i just leave the wood raw?

I thought it was better for chams to have dark features in their cage.
I would stain a dark oak or walnut. Would that be better than raw, very bright (almost white) pine?

Thoughts?

You MUST stain the wood. Untreated/unstained wood will rot and cause you A LOT of problems. It has to be able to resist all of the moisture that will be in your system.

after staining it let it air out for a couple days, then apply 3-4 coat of varnish over the stain. then let it air out for at least a week. Also pine is very soft, you will want to put a wood conditioner on it before applying the stain or it will come out blotchy
