Worried

I think my jackson cham is getting sick and I don't know what's wrong. For the past week he's been lazy and staying in a place for long periods of time, sleeping a lot and turning darkish brown/black. I spray him daily but not sure how many times I'm suppose to he turns brighter green when I do so but within 15 mins he's back to dark again. I'm not sure if he's eating I do put crickets in his cage but I don't think he has the energy to hunt. Do I need to powder then if so what I'm just really concerned on him and his health.

Hi,

Sorry to hear your jax isn't doing so well!

You are not giving a lot of usable information right now, could you fill out the 'how to ask for help' questionnaire: https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/how-to-ask-for-help.66/

Here's a caresheed for Jacksonii that should give you an impression of how your husbandry should be: https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/jacksons/

Is your Jax sleeping during the day (like mid day, not end of the day ~30-1 hr before lights out?

Chameleons will take on darker colors when basking to absorb more heat, in case of jacksonii this usually is dark green to brownish green... When they are stressed the display black coloring on their sides.

On spraying I can tell you this, with a Jacksonii you basically can't spray often enough, they need and love mistings and high humidity... If you don't give em enough misting this can and will eventually cause problems.

To check if he's eating you may want to try cup feeding insead of free range, it's easier to keep track on how much he eats that way! Are you feeding anything else than crickets? If not try switching to a different feeder (not mealworms) to see if that get's his attention.

Good luck!

    • Your Chameleon - Male Jackson Chameleon about 8months tops.
    • Handling - Almost everyday I let him roam the house but he falls asleep when he finds a comfy place.
    • Feeding - About 5-6 Crickets and sometimes phenoix worms and about 5-6 around the time of noonish. I don't gutload I'm not sure how to.
    • Supplements - I'm not using any not sure what to buy or use.
    • Watering - Luke warm misting water bottle I use by hand and I have a dripper in his cage no misting system. I spray him twice a day. I see him drinking but not by his self on the dripper.
    • Fecal Description - When sprayed he's bright green or when let him out but for the past week he's been dark green to almost black. Deffantly not himself.. No has not been tested for parasites.
    • History - Not really got him as a baby from a pet store.

    Cage Info:
    • Cage Type - Repti-breeze zoo-med screened in aquarium with sliding tray.
    • Lighting - Not sure what brand but will post pictures. Long portable leminaire light which has uv.and then another fixture lamp for heat. I turn on the light when I wake up.
    • Temperature - Right now it says 78.9°f using a zoo-med digital thermometer
    • Humidity - Not sure no device to tell me.
    • Plants - Plastic .No live ones
    • Placement - In the living room. And about 4 n half inches off the floor.

Sorry my head went straight to veiled chameleon you will still need calcium without d3 calcium with d3 and a multi vitamin calcium I believe is 2 times a week and calcium with d3 and multi vitamin 1 a month

You need calcium dust everyother day or every day calcium with d3 every 2 week and multi vitamin every 2 weeks you can gut load you bugs with carrots and crick Crack also I would get some live plants they help keep up the humidity
That's for a veiled or panther. That's too much for a montane species like a Jacksons

LOL yes, I do have a veild chameleon also. He always sleeps until I wake him up no matter where or time.but do I need to get him a misting system? idk if he's drinking enough water I did bath him n the tub with but he did not drink. I only know he drinks when I spray him myself. I do have a cup for him for crickets n phineox worms but criks do jump out. Where do I get the calcium and vitamins at? And just for a Jackson. I don't gut or vitamin my veild either

You should be able to get them at your local pet store this is what I use

They really should not be sleeping during the day my boy gets in his sleeping spot most nights just befor lights out but he never sleep during the day

Both of those calcium powders have D3. You need a plain calcium WITHOUT D3 to use everyday for the veiled and 2x a week for the Jackson's. Calcium with D3 should be used 2x a month for the veiled and once a month for the Jackson's. I highly recommend reading the care sheets. All the proper supplies can be purchased from Amazon

Thank you! And is the doses the same for a Jackson and veild?
Veiled is every day to everyother day with calcium every 2 weeks with the calcum with d3 and the multi vitamin Jackson is 2 times a week with calcium and 1 a month with calcium with d3 and multi vitamin

My jackson sleeps everywhere! I let him roam he finds a cord and sleeps there til I wake him. Thank you guys I wasn't sure on either of them that's why I never gave them any I didn't want to over do it. And misting is it best to have one for both instead of just spraying and a dripper I don't think it's enough my veild hardly drinks unless I hand spray him

They both need misters and the Jackson's is a montane species and has a big demand for water. Hand misting doesn't cut it.

As for the misters most people are going to recommend the Mistking. I have a Climist and it's the same thing as a Mistking but it's just sold by a different company for a little bit cheaper. Buy vitamins from Amazon. I use Herptivite multivitamin, Zoo Med Repticalcium without D3, and ZooMed Repticalcium with D3

Here's my weebo what's that white stuff on his spikes I know it's not she'd cus he's had it after shedding and ever since
