Hello. In other reptile forum we have a member who has veiled chameleons.(male and female) I saw his cages and in my opinion they are too small. I said to him this but they decline my opinion. They are big enough to live. And one more thing: he has no lamps for female one. I want to get your opinions about his cages. So I can show to him.

here are the photos

that set up HAS GOT to go. IMO. they need to seperate screen cages!!! and uvb reptisun 5.0 fixtures!
what is going on here ! this is not how you house chameleons!!! maybe geckos or something come on.

I feel so bad for those chameleons:( the one on the bottom looks like he has no room to move!! whoever this member is, he/she needs to either get a better set up and start taking care of them or give them away to an experienced chameleon owner. this is bad.

That's is so sad, the left one can barely move it seems and the right is terribly small. I use the noon the right (petco oasis terrarium, about 10g) for my on pygmy! I would never even consider a veiled because it will eventually grow to be the size of that tank! Hope that person comes to their senses.

That is very sad. I hate seeing irresponsible owners who refuse to understand the needs of their exotic pets. Those poor things will likely not live a long happy life. I am guessing by the lack of UVB light or proper caging that they wont get fed or supplemented correctly either. They will suffer as many exotic pets out there do.

All you can do is politely suggest they come to this site and learn how to properly care for their pets. If they refuse, then there isnt much else you can do. Be sure not to attack or let anger get the best of you as it will only put the owner on the offense and wont help those chameleons in any way.

Wow. I'm going to pull the biologist card (if that lends me any extra credibility) and say that that is shameful.

If you want to show him what a proper cage should look like, here's an example of what a pair of chameleons SHOULD be kept in:

On the right, you have my male and female's cages side by side and a close-up of the male's cage on the left. Sorry, taken straight from the blog, that's why it has the text bubble! I'm not on my old computer, where all my photos are.

wow if you cant properly afford an animal you should not have one. That includes housing, feeding, and vet bills.

I have two dogs as well that were free but have racked up 3-4k in vet bills because i do not spare any moment with my dogs health. Same goes with my cham. 1 week of owning him his eye looked funny i rushed him to the emergency vet for an eye flush. He got shed in his eye.

if you can not afford an animal then give it to some one who can.

Wow... just, wow. Now I've ghetto rigged together some improve habitats and cages in my life and they were never pretty but they always met the needs functionally of the animal they housed. These are ugly and dysfunctional. If you aren't crafty enough to make your own don't try to improve and if you can't afford a pre made cage either don't buy the animal you will just doom it to torment before it dies.

Thanks for your all comments. I think he understood his mistake. In my opinion he watched this topic. He saw your comments. In other forum we have a bad argument on this topic. He said that he was very sad and he is going to make bigger cage than these. He accept his mistake and said: '' I can't say stop my animal love in my heart .(sorry for bad english maybe there are some mistakes in sentences) thanks again this is very helpfull for 2 veiled chameleons lifes..
