Would you raise a Parsonii?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. You are just not entitled to my opinion.
Just kidding. I have had many chameleon species and there are many I haven't had, but Parsonii are my favorite. I have always had bulldogs as a dog.
A poodle wouldn't do it for me,but it's fine for someone else.

i would want to own a parsonii, and try breeding, but ratheri like to try a little of eveything:p....i would like to try melleri though as my first "Big" chameleon and may be breed them.. tehy are one of my faves ..JMHO:cool:

I think they're gorgeous, I'd love to be able to have one. They just have a fantastic face, they look so wise and calm. And I love the stripes and colors. They have a huge visual apeal for me. But I wouldn't breed them. That's neither something I care for doing or something that will help wild populations. Forget it if you think breeding exotic animals for the pet trade contributes to conservation. None of these animals are going back into the wild, conserving the populations that matter.

nevermind.....you were talikng about parsons.....sorry :p

Yeah, the strange American sense for morality  The biggest consumers of reptiles worldwide, but envy of every single animal species which isn't available ;)

:D Thats ok I have fuelleborni . I only said the Europe thing because I know you hate america. :D I was just having a little fun. no hard feelings. All the rest is IMO.

Haha no worries! :D Mellers are still super cool. I like them a lot too. It's possible I'll get a Mellers in a few years, when I get myself into a house. Right now, free ranging 5 chameleons in a small apartment like mine is work enough lol

General Parsonii care is not that hard at all. Not that much different than any other chameleon. Paying special attention to temperature and water intake. I have not really come across any chameleon that is hard to take care of or more difficult. Different maybe???(breeding thats another story). Its really just about what information you get.

If keeping a room cool when its hot outside is considered hard then I have a number of animals and a empty wallet that can prove that wrong. Its not hard just takes more consideration and planning.

The first six months anyways.

We are human, we always wan't to try difficult things, even though there is harder chameleons to care for, parsons are still not a piece of cake if you have no experience with a wide variety of chameleon, to conclude i would not attempt to take care of one, it would be better in mine and the chameleons interest to donate it to someone who has referencing experience with these creatures.

General Parsonii care .

I just want to clarify that I am talking basic care. I am not talking more than Temp, water , food etc.

I don't want it to sound like I am saying anything that could sound like I am saying its easy what advanced keepers are actually working towards.

General Care of any animal is not that hard with good information.

I don't hate it, but I'm still happy that I live where I live :p Btw: Is the $ course still sinking ;)?

You just described to a t why I would hand a parson over to Steve Sims rather than keeping it. I feel they belong with someone who will care for them as they should be cared for.

Reiteration:

It may just be me, but I feel that some of the comments stated may have been in response of my earlier post and I would like to provide some clarification on my opinion of this question.

First, When I stated my opinion of Deforestation Versus "The Trade" It came off that I thought the pet trade was much worse than the deforestation thats going on in Madagascar and South Africa, I believe that they are equally to blame. And I also stated that I believed that Chameleons could persevere even with deforestation going the way it has, Now I had just gotten done reading an amazing article that was speaking about how chameleons could survive this and in fact already are by moving into more public areas such as gardens and other shrub inhabited areas, Now I was a little "type" happy and stated this about parsonii! Now after thinking about it a bit longer I do not think this to be true of parsonii just based on their SIZE alone much less their feeding requirements.
If I may, I'd also like to state that this article was geared towards "South African Dwarf Chameleons" Ooops Sorry! I'll research into it a bit more next time!

And as for keeping them, I believe they should only be kept by People that intend to study them and reproduce them, as I don't believe the deforestation will cease anytime soon and nor will the pet trade whether it be legal or not. So I think they should be kept and reproduced so even if this species does become extinct in the wild, we will have captive bred populations in zoos and other institutions for other people around the world to enjoy! IMO ;)

...so will you raise one?

I would love the oppurtunity to raise and attempt to reproduce this fabulous species. But personally I would only attempt this if I had a nice greenhouse and were able to basically free range them inside. I feel that they are just to majestic to cage. So unless I hit the lotto or a rich relative kicks the bucket I dont see myself getting any anytime soon....

My husband and I were just talking about this yesterday. He encourages me to obtain a pair, but right now, I do not feel I know enough to give them proper care. When I have done enough research and have everything ready, I would definitely raise a pair and attempt to breed them.
