If she is anything like my veiled, she will eat as much as she can pack in, and then be irritated by the remainder. I suppose thats OK as long as you do it rarely. From what I've read, chams can go about two days w/o food, so the crix should hold her while you are gone.
Since it is a veiled...
The first thing i thought when i saw the title of this thread was "Shamwow", not as an exclamation, but as an absorbent product. I have been considering trying it, they are washable/reuseable, and here in Baltimore you can get them at Pep Boys or CVS (and yes there is a picture of Vince on the...
A recent trip to the local home supply has revealed that incandescent spot bulbs are becoming less available due to the increased popularity of energy efficient lighting. I understand that compact fluorescent bulbs can damage a chameleons eyes and are not suitable for basking.
What about...
Hello, i am a newbie. . . i hope you don't mind me butting in for a moment with a hypothesis: Is it possible that your cham's hyoid bone has become misaligned due to voids in the bone material being filled; now that the supplementation/light/diet are correct? sorry if that sounds stupid. . ...
meh.
This seems excessively cruel to the "gecko". Some people feed pinkies also, which is fine and necessary for a snake. But is it necessary or even good for the chameleon? There are so may other things that a chameleon can and will eat, why risk impaction, or even an internal puncture from...
I was thinking of using a 1/2 inch dowel and wrapping it in some sandblasted grape vines to make it more user friendly.
The tack thing is a great idea!!:D
Fishing line had crossed my mind, glad to hear that it is indeed of use. As far as i know it will not rot, as long as u use the thick...
What a some possible options for mounting a basking perch inside of a aluminum mesh enclosure? I just ordered such an enclosure, which should arrive soon. Without having it sitting in front of me, i am having difficulty imagining a good way to mount a perch. I want to run it from side to side...
When i see the quick reply box, i tend to assume the thread is over.
I just read the other three pages and it pretty much answered my question! Sorry!!
SO, is there any chance of a Veiled not being really unpleasant? I got one which was about two months old (3 months ago). I thought it was a female. . .
but was glad to notice spurs about a week ago. I handle him about twice a week, never for more than a couple of minutes. Usually he is not...
Good to know. . .I just started using the broc. and spin.. It will be omitted in the future.
Is the calcium-cricket-quencher a product that should be avoided as well?
I've been giving my worms and crickets the Flukers calcium fortified cricket quencher, in addition to vegges (broccoli, potatoes, carrots, frozen spinach, etc.). The worms love it, i don't suppose they get much food or water while they are sitting in the store. . .
I don't know if this is true, maybe someone else can enlighten us. . . i have heard that a dominant incandescent light can nullify the beneficial effects of a fluorescent. I feel like that makes sense. . . maybe try a different angle for your basking light?
A little Vaseline around the top of the enclosure keeps hissing roaches from climbing out, i suppose it would work for flightless flies as well. . . though Vaseline might be too sticky; maybe a non perishable cooking oil?
