At that age, you can’t really tell by colors. Instead you’re looking at the base of the tail to see if there’s a hemipenal bulge. Bulge = male. No bulge = female.
If it was me, I’d deck out the new enclosure with the proper lighting, plants/branches, and move him in there ASAP. He’s going to need time to get adjusted to the new enclosure but once he’s settled in, he’ll be good to go.
Jackson's require pretty significant temperature drops at night so you'll want to consider that when deciding on what species to get. If building one from scratch is an option for you (I personally am not great at that kind of stuff) then I would think about going big! Something like 4'x2'x4'...
