Is there a quick way to tell if calciworms aren't dead?

I always have to wait 15 minutes or more to see if the calciworms I fished out of the container are actually alive. She will eat anything that goes into the feeder cup, so I always check to make sure they move first. But they are so inactive! There's always three or four that don't move, so I...

OH YUCK! filarial worms- now what? *WARNING - nasty worm pics!

Ugh. Those make warbles seem like teddy bears by comparison, though I bet both are just as deadly in young or weakened animals. Would there be a way to treat them, short of surgery? I would think there is no way to kill them off safely with just meds as they would be trapped and rot inside the body.

    I'm back!! Bowser!

dropanuke, I am so sorry you are going through this. I know how agonizing it can be. I am always horrified when a vet thanks me and my husband for deciding to humanely euthanize one of our pets. And it's been multiple vets on multiple occasions. With advances in medicine today, the question...

Star Wars? Star Wars. Star Wars!

Honestly, from what I've read about it I'm probably going to skip it so I don't turn thunderous fangirl like I did over the Star Trek remakes. My husband and I still get into fights about that because I thought it was terrible and he loved it. Somehow I suspect Star Wars is going to go the same...

Kam's going to the vet :(

Not sure where you are in the world, but in winter we use hard lunch pail to transport herps and inverts. Keeps the temperature steady, keeps them confined and in the dark, and it's easy to put a small heat pack in when it's really cold out. :)

Could use help and guidance - new veiled owner with new rescue

She seems... a lot more chubby these days. Her casque is looking really thick. Is this normal thick - like she's at a healthy weight? Or is this be at caution thick - as in it could be a sign of infection? The joys of starting with a sick animal and getting it to healthy. I have no...

Black spot on nose... Is he okay??

That's why I skipped the butterworms when ordering - it can cause some chameleons to have a bad reaction which includes dark spots: https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/the-ill-effects-of-butterworms.100819/ https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/help-please-black-spot.112250/

what can i feed my pygmy chameleons other than insects?

Have you seen the caresheet for pygmies? It covers their diet along with everything else they need to thrive: https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/pygmy/ Have you asked the local pet shops if they can special order in the feeders you need? Some can do that! I had to mail order the...

    How long?

My leopard geckos get grumpy as heck, and they don't have eye caps. I imagine it has to feel weird for them, wearing a second layer around for a brief period of time. Chams or geckos don't usually like to be touched, and then they get stuck for a few days wrapped up in tight old skin that's...

    Effects of Improper Humidity

Just think about how uncomfortable you would be if it was always 90% (dripping sweat just moving around) or if it was always 10% (skin drying out and cracking). And we humans have the ability to live in almost any place. Chameleons are adapted to only the part of the world they live in, and they...

Longevity of Panther Chameleons - who has the oldest living Panther?

Something I'd been wondering for a while - do they live longer, the same as, or shorter when in captivity than when in the wild?

    Billy's not feeling well

I think it needs to be said that he needs to see a veterinarian who is experienced and preferably specializes in reptiles. I know the members here can help you find someone nearby. Almost any vet will agree to see any species, but that doesn't mean they know what they are doing. I've gone to...
