Although it has a sad ending, this story made me very happy. Kudos to you and your wife, you made this cham's last months incredible! It seems like she went peacefully and happily in her sleep.
It's amazing how fast we bond with these lizards. Sorry for your loss, and thank you for sharing.
I am also having this problem although my girl is a few months under a year. I've been posting in the thread with updates, please do so as well and hopefully somewhere down the line we can achieve a concrete solution, or more importantly preventative measures. There is a lot to learn about eye...
I've done the water cup with 4 veilds I've had with only one actively drinking (she started on the day the cup was put in). I found it very interesting, and don't really see the problem with it when it's kept clean and used in addition to misting/dripping, not as a replacement for it.
It's just...
You could let him go without food for 2 days, and then offer something other than your staple feeder. And just hold it, far away enough so that he doesn't lean. If he does start showing signs of stress, pull back and let him get comfortable again. Try not to make eye contact, and position...
Daily interaction and hand feeding are the best ways. All but one of my chams started out the same as yours, and they all eventually hand fed and tolerated handling.
The ticket to hand feeding is finding the right treat. Always been hornworms for me. They won't eat the first or second from your...
Just wanted to post an update on my girl I mentioned a page back.
After posting I stopped the Vit A drops and started using Repashy calcium plus only 3 times a week, with calcium in between. She seemed to get better in the following few weeks, but lately has been closing both eyes again. Since...
Thanks again for the advice. There is a reputable herp shop in town that deals with a lot of breeders and rescues, there must be a decent vet in the area somewhere. Worth investigating, I'll ask next time I get feeders.
I'll check in later with an update on my girl for better or for worse.
Thank you very much for your input. I'm using Jamieson brand Vit A, which is 10,000 UI and I've only been slightly basting one of her 10 crickets for 3 days now. I of course am keeping a very close eye on her, especially after learning all of this.
Unfortunately I can't afford to take her to a...
I tried to ask her why she had her eyes closed, but she ignored me. I'll stop the Vit A if it's a bad idea. At this point though, it was either watch her go down hill or try something to help.
I had read WC chams can have trouble metabolizing Vit A from supplements, and she isn't too far...
I am currently having eye issues with my female Panther. She had just started to develop her pink colouration when I noticed her keeping an eye closed when she thought I wasn't looking. I immediately went the Saline route for a few days. I thought this helped until I noticed her closing both...
My drip system consists of 4 ice cubes on the cage over his leafs. I put those on in the morning with a misting, and mist in the afternoon once as well. I've caught my panthers shooting their tongue at leafs to get water, so you might not even see him move for that. If his urate is white and...
My guy does the same. Compared to veileds, Panthers seem quite relaxed. The only time my guy leaves his perch is to drink, and try to escape to the free range about once a day. As long as his eyes are open, there's nothing to worry about.
My ambilobe didn't really start getting vibrant colors until he was around 7-8 months, and it's only now that he's over a year that he's really starting to look like what I've come to expect from a panther.
Maybe another member can chime in on this, but I would recommend bumping up the number...
At a month old, mine were still eating pinheads and fruit flies. It will generally take a cham a week or so to acclimate to his new location. Leave his cup empty until the new feeders arrive. Keep him hydrated in the mean time. When the pinheads go in, he'll be eating like crazy.
Skip the...
If you really want a good idea of how much your cham is growing, buy a digital scale. Seeing them every day you don't realize the growth over time, especially only a month and a half.
That being said, he is young and should be doing most of his growth over the next few months. Try mixing up his...
