Do you mind posting photos of his FR and a bit about his general care? Meller's don't usually like it as hot as other species, but still, most still really enjoy a warm (80-85ish) basking spot. So I don't necessarily think that's normal, but I'd have to know more to say anything for sure.
Just a side note Mike, but is that a grape tree I see in one of your cages? Top row towards the middle. I just started using grape tree in my outdoor melleri cages and I'm loving the plant, I don't know why I avoided it for so long! Does it do ok indoors?
Without tongues it's hard to move stuff as far down as it needs to go before the throat can take over. I saw it all the time with my veiled Charlotte, who also had no tongue. But he will learn, it just takes time to get used to living without something you've always had!
I like the name! I'm a...
Obviously some substrates are inherently dangerous any way you look at them (like, bark for example. Not even the digestive tract of Hercules himself can move along sharp, splintery material without at least some considerable discomfort) but I think the risk of impaction is greatly...
Also something worth noting - reptiles can get congested if they aren't getting enough water, since there isn't as much lubrication in the body to move things around. If the cham's owners aren't misting as well as they should then a nice long drink will help things get going again. Since the...
Gosh Jann, I'm so sorry! What could be going on that you have such bad luck with egg-laying issues? Does Dr. Mader (or Dr. Alfonso) think anything could be the cause? It's obvious that you take great care of them, so I don't know why you keep having these problems with your girls. I feel so bad!
Des, have you gone to the local news with this? It occurs to me that it's a weird story, and a local news channel may be interested. That would be a tremendous help in getting leads potentially, because if these people are local and they suddenly have almost 30 new lizards someone must have...
The set-ups in the first link are mine, and the PVC pipes that connect the cages' individual catch pans all drain into buckets. I could have connected all 4 cages but I wanted the two units to be easy to separate if I needed to redo the room for whatever reason. It was by far the easiest system...
I can't help you, I've never had a problem! I've always done the opposite though, keep things as secret as possible. I'm a good tenant, I pay my pet fees and deposits for the dogs, and keep a clean and quiet apartment. Anytime a landlord has come up to do any work or anything the reptiles have...
I've also just rinsed mine off and put them straight in my cages. I also only use branches that I cut down fresh from the tree, since branches that have died and have fallen to the ground tend to be brittle, bug-infested, or otherwise compromised. Live ones tend to hold up much better much longer.
They are a threatened species but these individuals are captive bred, so whether they are sold to keepers here or in Europe it doesn't quite make a difference, as they certainly aren't going back to Madagascar. So I don't see what the ethical issue of importing them is, as cb European aninals...
The only thing I'll say right now is that it's not a great idea to give chameleons baths where you put them in liquid, it stresses them out pretty badly. Showers are a much better way, so if you can find a way to mist him a while with normal water that would be better. But I want to see what...
Hi and welcome to the forum! Let's see if we can figure out what's going on.
Could you fill this out with as much detail as you can, please? Don't skip questions, sometimes they may not seem important but they can be when you look at the bigger picture.
Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The...
Nope, no need to clip their nails. Since they are tree-climbers it pretty much comes with the territory. If you use vines/branches with natural texture (say, a real branch instead of smooth, wooden dowels) just walking around will file them down a bit but they're always going to need to be long...
They're the same. Nosy Faly is the name of the island and I believe Oorana mena means "red rain" in Malagasy, and it was coined for the locale by a breeder. But they're both names for the same locale, technically just Nosy Faly.
Let's schedule something same time, next year lol I'm working on a move to Tampa, at the latest by summer but hopefully sooner to work and go to school.
I'm hoping I can get a group of friends going in that area, like we had on the East coast with Jann, Dr. O, Carol, and several others. Miami...
