    Building a tree...

Thanks! Tonight's progress has been excellent as well (sadly no pics though). I've made the joints a lot stronger by putting another screw the other way round along the length of the original screw (queue crappy paint picture): This massively improves the strength in the joint. For...

    Building a tree...

I'd struggle to find any at a good price! I was thinking of using those double sided dowel screws (http://www.amazon.co.uk/DOWEL-SCREW-DOUBLE-WOOD-STEEL/dp/B007IWH9Y8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344416528&sr=8-1) but it would be hard to screw the branches on once I've got the mesh in place {it's...

I am in HUGE trouble! This is serious:(

I must have had a small colony living in the radiator in my chameleon room as when I opened it to clean it out, I found a lot of dead baby dubias that had been eaten by a now very fat spider! Was a little surprise, but haven't seen many since (saw one molt downstairs) but nothing else. They...

    Building a tree...

Right, well since my last post I've made a little progress with the trees! I've finished the other two main trunks and they look pretty good if I do say so myself (excluding the string obviously): Since making these, I then started to think about how to join the 'branches' onto the...

    Building a tree...

Eventually I guess the wood might rot, but we are talking a very long time for that to happen! It won't be in contact with the soil as it will be held above it by the steel supports, so it should easily cope with the day to day mistings in the enclosure (as I've never had wood rot on me yet!)...

    Building a tree...

Cool! I'm glad everyone likes the look of it so far! I should get the other 'trees' up tonight. Indeed! I have a number of pothos (devils ivy in the UK) ready to go in and might find some other plants to include as well. Any suggestions? I'm tempted to try a few plants from the frog keeping...

    Building a tree...

Well, following on from this post: https://www.chameleonforums.com/protecting-wood-will-soil-89008/ given that my enclosure build is taking shape, I've got some time to get to building my tree idea... So, this was the rough plan: And here is the current output (please ignore the string...

    My latest build (6' x 4' x 8' w x d x h)

Thanks all! I can't wait to get it finished now and have it up and running! May have to revise my timing estimate, but it'll be in no later than next weekend! :P It's for my Diego Suarez! Don't know what I'm going to do with his old enclosure....

    My latest build (6' x 4' x 8' w x d x h)

Sadly it's not finished yet, but I have now joined all the bits together and it looks like this: I'm pretty happy with it, but the wood used for the top has not all be the right size, so it's out here and there... Never mind, it works and can be reasonably easily fixed (with a...

    wild-caught wood

You're not the only one! Who's chasing what wood? :P But yeah, sterilise it first just to be safe (I normally just boil boiling water over it a few times as that will get rid of pretty much all the nasty stuff) Unless of course you're talking about something else at which point boiling...

    Required UV tube

I don't quite follow what you mean, but I plan to put the bulbs as follows across the top of the enclosure: Does this look OK/like you meant?

    Required UV tube

Great, it's what I use for my yemen, but thought it might be over kill for my panther. I have about 6 good daylight flourescents ready to go in (not all at the same time! Will probably use 3 across the top) as they are great for plant growth. I keep thinking about trying strip LED's around...

    Required UV tube

All, I'm currently building my Diego Suarez a new enclosure that is 6' x 4' x 8' (w x d x h) and wondered what people's thoughts were on the UV tube to use... Given the size and height of the enclosure, I am leaning towards a reptisun 10.0 (as the tube will be across the middle of the top...

Protecting wood that will be in soil?

Bingo! This is the sort of thing I needed! Now that you've said it, it's such an obvious idea (plus, it will help me get over the issue of trying to find a way to stabilise it)! Queue a *****y paint drawing! Not only will this keep the tree above the ground, it will also mean I can make a...

When you say LEDs... do you mean, the spot light type bulbs of the strips you can get these days?

Protecting wood that will be in soil?

So, for a long time now I have had the idea of building a tree for my enclosures from various pieces of wood joined together so that it looks like an actual tree is in the enclosure (rather than just random branches here and there). However, I can't think of a good/safe way to protect the...

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of lighting do you use? And now, the crucial question, how can you replicate that lighting in an enclosure that is 7' tall!? I've tried twice (and failed miserably) at getting ferns to grow at the bottom of very tall enclosures (i've just about managed to...

Planning to build my first enclosure...

Personally, I like to build using wood (sealing it with teak oil then varnish) and use epoxy coated aluminium screen. I've got two guides on this forum as well (currently working on third) on how to make them! https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-latest-build-progress-40191/...

    Help! Diy cage

Personally, i would try something like mrfixit said and use a trim or some description to cover it other wise it will look quite messy. As for the adhesive itself, hot glue would work or aquarium sealant (silicone) would be another good option. I would apply it, push the mesh into place...
