so im sitting here thinking. as most of us do. and im thinking. are we weird?

now i know im weird because i pet wild skunks that i summon with my vomit. i spend summer evenings perched like a gargoyle on my neighbors fences till the headlights of random cars hit me and i phase into the darkness. i actually try to roleplay when i play world or warcraft (no one does that btw). i wade into hypothermic swamps in the middle of february to find a damn tiny tree frog, just for the gratification of seeing one. i rub glowstick juice in my eyes becuse i think its a goood idea and will look cool then spend the next hour of my life laughing hysterically in excruciating pain while i hose my face.

so im just confused. why do "normal people" focus on status, ego and money. now i understand the money thing but "normal people" when they get it spend it on things to inflate their egos. why not buy things that are functional? clothes? you know whats cool about clothes? being a tailor. either that of getting shuff 90% off at khols. you know whats cool about cars? all i want is a jeep wrangler with a snorkel and two dirt bike racks. whats cool about a house? designing and buiding it yourself. unless you decide to buy a hobbit hole in which case thats PIMP

my jeep with maybe a dragon 50 cal

just for zombies of course.

but the chameleon thing? is that weird? i dont think it is. i think it is an excellent way to refine ones focus (a nice distraction from everyday bs) and blissful in regards to watching them grow and procreate all under you care. very gratifying.

so i ask you chameleon forum goer(s). whats weird about you? and why isnt this hobby weird?

this world dosnt feel real to me. the way humanity behaves, even ignore the destruction we've wrought. the majority of us seem to have this focus or aim that seems fruitless and juvenile. the truely gratifying things, creation and expression are lost in this static storm. am i blind or is most everyone? ....i assume its a little bit of both.

Am I weird?

Heck yeah....there's the chameleon thing, that's totally weird. I'm a 53 year old woman, why am I keeping lizards? What's really weird? I got my first chameleon for my 50th birthday.

I crochet weird things, dragons, animals, trees. I write soft core gay Star Trek porn (try to make that not seem weird).

I do have to say that even I think calling wild skunks to you with vomit is a bit beyond weird...I'm sort of hoping that's an April Fool's thing.

no not an april fools joke. it was unintentional. but it happened. you know what else they do they dig up yellow jacket and wasp nests and eat those! pretty cool eh?

and i apologize for calling you an old lady but youre one cool old lady XD

I don't mind being called an old lady....again, I'm weird.

I know that skunks eats wasps and yellow jackets...they are very helpful, wonderful animals. Plus, they are ultra cute, who doesn't love a skunk?

Yeah if you refer to weird as not compliant with standards of society, just about every one on this forum is weird. Haha. But the self sustenant egotistical nonsense is a silly boasting pretend superiority game..

In reference to sanity purposes and knowledge purposes, of course those are maintained.. Sure ya could be insane and care for chameleons but I can't imagine any thing that would amplify the probability.. and there is much more to be learned with caring for chameleons than there would be with the self sustenant "money ho's cars and clothes" cycle. Haha.

So.. are we weird? Obviously! Is that beneficial? Probably :p

"So.. are we weird? Obviously! Is that beneficial? Probably" now officially in my top 10 quotes and being amongst plato, jfk and dr seuss is no small accomplishment.

The chameleon hobby for me is a way of connecting and understanding nature, and to appreciate in a sense where we come from if not what our world is truly based upon. A simple answer, no its not weird. its relaxing, wondrous, exciting, at times frustrating, mostly rewarding, and always learning about chameleons. But apart from chameleons, i became interested in plants/gardening, insects, lifecycles, basically one interest leads to another that is apart of nature.

Now as for me, yes i am weird, I do agree in "1st world" countries such as the U.S force society to go by the status quo of basically

born-go to school-go to college-get a job- make a family and it repeats... with middle parts of genuine individual experiences that make up common experiences of society....

i think how people are brought up is a factor of worshipping the dollar..what do we really want? does it require money? mostly it does one way or another.

I do see there is more to life than meet's the eye but how we see the world if not ourselves is always different by interpretation of one's own thought process of how we conceive others and ourselves by our own experiences

if you had a hard if not cruel life, you maybe bitter of the world, losing hope for humanity , losing hope of our purpose in life, thats right our purpose our meaning our basic foundation of why we breathe oxygen and expel carbon dioxide thinking what is my individual purpose any relevent to the understanding that humans do comprehend some fabric of truth or maybe just fact that there is a reality around us, whether if we create our own reality or reality is universal to all that we just "live in" is always debated.

as humans we have made mistakes throughout history, but just as much bad we have done, i still believe we can still do good in this world.

my quirkiness is that i plainly think too much, questioning myself, people, ideology, reason, logic, science, etc. I question everything and anything that exists and even that doesnt exist but just a simple thought, a simple idea

people dont realize or maybe i only appreciate such things, that as humans we "think" we "comprehend", but to what extent?

the enigma of our imaginations and dreams being viewed as infinite or limitness ideas of random memories mixed with our desires is amazing

how people react to one another is also intriguing

Overall nature and cham keeping make me stop thinking and just blissfully make me realize that maybe its not always knowing but just the simple fact of realizing its there, it exists is enough for everything to make sense of knowing.

"It is what it is" lol

i mean in a philosophical viewpoint, if humans didnt exist, if no other being ,capable like us to recognize more than just predator and prey, but to fully recognize everything around us....would it really exist?

i mean if there is no one to witnness or recognize anything that exists, does it really exist?

anyway those are some of my thoughts from time to time

I understand that im young, i have alot to learn, and will experience new things that may change my views or further enhance them. I appreciate people, and everything that has to offer to me. Good or bad it will shape my identity as a person, and im grateful for that

well, thats it on my part, i dont know if what i said makes any sense if not, IM WEIRD LOL:p

We're all wierd in our own little ways. I wouldn't pet a skunk after luring him in with my vomit though... that's a little out of my league of wierdness. ;)

.....as humans we have made mistakes throughout history, but just as much bad we have done, i still believe we can still do good in this world. a quote for you "...for man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life."-jfk

my quirkiness is that i plainly think too much, questioning myself, people, ideology, reason, logic, science, etc. I question everything and anything that exists and even that doesnt exist but just a simple thought, a simple idea

never stop questioning self, once you become rigged, one you become solid you can be shattered, then again that just my opinion

people dont realize or maybe i only appreciate such things, that as humans we "think" we "comprehend", but to what extent?

i think there for i am, trust nothing more than your own perspective, their perception is flawed but what is true is how you perceive it. for as broken as others perspectives may be they are to be warranted. for without it, you have no perspective of self. and how can you be certain your perspective of self isnt flawed?

the enigma of our imaginations and dreams being viewed as infinite or limitness ideas of random memories mixed with our desires is amazing

thats the old if a tree falls in the wood does it make a sound? basic physics and understanding of our natural environment says yes. but our world may be stranger than we believe.

Well, I dont know if I'm weird, but the other day a cricket's leg fell off while I was trying to hand feed, and I picked it up and ate it.

That is definitely weird.. Have you checked into a mental facility in the past 5-10 years? Chameleon Keeping/Reptile Keeping isn't weird, it's a hobby, lifestyle, you name it. It's just like keeping cats and dogs, but we get more enjoyment out of our scaly little friends. It depends on how you portray it and how you make it out to be to people that don't understand. That is how they determine whether or not it's weird.

Have to admit I enjoyed your videos so much that I had to subscribe to them! I even had a pet skunk before... and I was 50 when I got my first cham! Not weird... just the older I get I just do what suits me and not the normal flow.

I don't like chocolate. Or ketchup.

Despite the strange things I do, everyone thinks those are the weirdest things about me. No lie.

I have to agree here. It's okay to be unique but really, rubbing glow stick in your eyes... that's not weird, no offense but that could make you blind.... Not very smart.

Skunks like dog food, why vomit.... All very odd!

Reading most of these is like woah.... almost like, somethings should be left un said lol.... it's TMI :)

well we were playing badminton one night and i decided turning the lights out and dunking the shuttlecock in glowstick juice was a much better idea than trying to keep track of it in the limited lighting.

it actually worked out really well. so then a couple of us just started pouring it all over ourselves and me and one other rubbed it in our eyes.

i looked at the packaging it said nontoxic......just like vinegar isnt toxic but if you get it in your eyes it burns :p

and i didnt know it would summon skunks, i just vomited outdoors a lot. then they just started showing up

lol makes it a lot better. I was confused. but check this out, may say its okay but would you drink this?

The glowstick contains two chemicals and a suitable fluorescent dye (sensitizer, or fluorophor). The chemicals in the plastic tube are a mixture of the dye and a derivate of phenyl oxalate ester (also called Cyalume). The chemical inside the glass vial is concentrated (about 35%) hydrogen peroxide. By mixing the peroxide with the phenyl oxalate ester, a chemical reaction takes place; the ester is oxidized, yielding two molecules of phenol and one molecule of peroxyacid ester. The peroxyacid decomposes spontaneously to carbon dioxide, releasing energy that excites the dye, which then deexcites by releasing a photon. The wavelength of the photon depends on the structure of the dye.

Other chemicals are usually present in the mixture as well; eg. sodium salicylate as a catalyst, and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) as a solvent. Instead of cyalume, bis(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl-6-carbopentoxyphenyl)oxalate (CPPO) is used in practical formulations, as it gives significantly better quantum yield. A similar reaction can be achieved with bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)oxalate (TCPO).

Means a Organic Oxidizer Corrosive Toxic
