Looks like a burn. Could the tail have touched to the light source or the ceramic/metal lamp? If so, then it needs to be placed it further away before other babies burn themselves too.
Hopefully the vet can remove it safely and it won't get infected afterwards. Maybe it is better to not remove it until the chameleon is a bit older, I do not know.

They cant get close to the light, definitely not a burn. I’m worried about taking the baby out in the cold too, unfortunately there are no rep vets close, so I would likely b gone with the baby for hours

He should be fine if you take him. Just warm the car up first and put him in a warm cage and cover it with a towel or blanket. I had to take my cham to the vet in the winter and I put her in a cage with a towel and then covered it. She was fine.

I have encountered this many times, I use cortizone 10 in the morning and the night for about 10 days and it should heal up fine really no need for a vet. Feel free to text me at 916-724-9618 if you have any other questions I'm Eric.

Yikes, cortizone is the wrong thing to use on a wound. Cortizone will suppress the immune system. It is not an antibiotic. It does a lot of things but if anyone is worried about an infection--and a dead tail is always a worry--cortizone is not the drug I would apply.

Disclaimer: I'm not vet.

@Nae It looks as if you shut the door on the baby's tail, cut the circulation off and the tip died. It happens. It is really hard to keep track of babies when you are closing doors.

It looks good. It is dry and there is no swelling. Just leave it. Eventually the dead bits will fall off. I don't suggest you put anything on this wound because it is dry and sealed and healing well. If you put on any kind of an ointment, you moisten it and allow entry of bacteria. Again, I'm not a vet. I would treat it differently if it was fresh or looked infected.
