Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - panther chameleon, sex undetermined, and about 2.5 months old. I have had him for about three weeks

Handling - He still isn't used to people quite yet, I hand feed him almost everyday and he has walked on my hand a few times but inside the cage only.

Feeding - I feed him pheonix worms and crickets. The pheonix worms I put like 5 in a little cup in the cage and the crickets about 7. I gut-load the crickets with the green cricket food that the pet store gave me.

Supplements - I use zoo med calcium and reptivite I dust the crickets with
calcium with d3 and the reptivitamin, but I just bought calcium without d3 and will use that tomorrow.

Watering - I have a monsoon and I also mist the cage whenever I see it needs it. I have the monsoon on 30 minute intervals for 12 seconds. I have seen him drinking.

Fecal Description - They are hard, with a white color. He has never been tested for parasites.

History - The only thing I can think of is that he looks like he is shedding in between his back legs, he just started to have this two days ago. We could tell he wanted crickets that day and we bought some for him and he ate them immediately. We had dusted them with both the calcium and reptivite (both have d3). Yesterday, we did the same thing and he was fine in the morning, he ate all of the crickets. Sometime in the afternoon I found him sleeping and I knew that wasn't a good thing. I did some research and found out it could be signs of MBD, so I went and bought the calcium without d3. He still hasnt eaten the crickets we put in this morning, so I am very worried. He has slept all day today. He did however wake up when the mister came on and drank some water a few times.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Screen cage 18" X 12" X 22"

Lighting - I use the lights for 12 hours everyday (6am-6pm). I have the zilla slimline desert fixture 5.0 tube, zoo med daylight blue reptile bulb 60 watt, and the exo terra daylight basking spot 50 watt

Temperature - The temperature in the day is between 80-90F. At night the lowest is about 75F. I have a digit thermometer that reads the temps.

Humidity - My humidity during the day is around 55 and at night it gets up to 65. I have a monsoon, I mist the cage, and I just bought a golden pothos. I have a zoo med humidity guage.

Plants - I have one live plant and it is a golden pothos.

Placement - I have the cage in the bathroom on a pedestal (about four feet off the ground), it is away from the air conditioning vent and we usually just have the windows open so it doesn't get too cold. The door is usually shut or half-way open so that not a lot of commotion goes on around him.

Location - Florida

Current Problem - He has been sleeping all day long, and not eating.

90 is a bit hot, especially for a baby. Do you use both the basking bulbs at the same time? You only need the daylight basking, not a blue bulb. The usually suppliment schedule is calicum without d3 everyday, calcium with d3 2x a month, and multivitamins 2x a month. You can post pictures and people might be able to tell you sex.

but what would by the reason for him to sleep all the time?...like is that okay?....and what temperature should be the highest?

I keep 2 to 3 month olds in the very low 80's. I see you are in FL so get your cham outside. The natural UVB is great for your cham and may help with the eyes. The lights are strong for babies and can bother their eyes. If you can't keep him/her outside allot during the day then raise the lights up way off the top of the cage. I'm attaching my blog for new keepers for you below.

Take the cage outside with him in it, with no lights. Move the light up high off the top of the cage.

It's likely the monsoon every 30 minutes and maybe the supplementation. I'm not familiar with those products.
The blue light bulb is probably not the greatest idea either.

It is very important that the enclosure not be damp constantly. Constant dampness will cause the problem you are describing. So will the supplements if they are not decent- try using products and schedules you see recommended here on the forums (search for supplement schedule).

A basking spot of 90 isn't causing this problem unless there is no way for the lizard to escape the heat.

You have a long time ahead of him to worry about handling. Give him a few months to settle in before much handling- stress can also cause him to crash and sleep. Handling can be and usually is stressful until the chameleon feels confident. For now, focus on the hand feeding and the handling will come later naturally. Hand feeding can reduce the stress.

so I should stick to a schedule that I find on here?....and I have a lot of places for him to find shade.....will he know not to burn himself? like by staying in the heat too long?

how should I suspend the lights and how high up?

6 to 8 inches. Please check my blog to make sure you have the correct kind of lights.

My baby Elly was from a 6 month retained clutch with only 5 eggs that made it past two weeks and she was the only one that made it. A slit was in the egg and I waited for 24 hours but she was too small and too weak to get out. I opened the egg and got her out. The UVB bulb bothered her the first 2 months so I had to take her outside for natural sun.

there surprisingly isn't much dampness in the cage...it dries up within 5 minutes...in some spots the water stays though...i still haven't put the plant in because i need to figure out how to place it in the cage...i know to wash it...but is replanting in organic soil and making sure that he can't eat the soil necessary?

How did you know she was bothered by it?...and how would you suggest suspending it?

Have you removed the plastic cover over the light on the slimline fixture? If not do so asap, it filters the uvb

ya i did that before i started using it...and in 6 months im going to switch to a reptisun because my mom gifted the zilla to me...and didn't realize its the wrong light

Several other babies from the first clutch and other members here have all had babies that new UVB lights bother their babies eyes. When she was outside her eyes were open. When she was inside under the light her eyes were closed. Your baby could also be sick and not just have an eye problem. Closed eyes is one of the first signs of an illness.

because they will close their eyes and rub their eyes. Get rid of that light! I have seen other members on here use the desert series light and have problems with their chameleons eyes. Get a Zoo med Reptisun 5.0 tube light. If you need to suspend it you can put block of wood or a stack of books on each end to raise it up. Some people suspend theirs from the ceiling with chains. Most likely if you change your lighting you will see improvement and your cham should not close his eyes. If he is still doing it, then there is something else going on, maybe parasites or something. As Jann said, get your chameleon outside in the sun and get rid of that desert series light. They are too strong for chameleons eyes. You can try the Reptisun and if that bothers your cham still then don't use any uvb at all for now.
