Baby Melleri Madness!!

@jajeanpierre they're not a great pic, but it shows the difference between the ones that are primarily black and white v the ones that are green and white. More green is really starting to come out!!

They are pretty!

I decided when the eggs were laid that I would keep 3 of the babies. Now I have decided that I am going to keep 6 of them, lol. I'm afraid my number is going to keep going up!!!
That's why, even though it's annoying, I'm ok that my husband has limits. Lol. Otherwise I would be the crazy Cham lady. I have my head in the clouds and his is in the dirt. We balance each other out ptetty well but it is so hard for me when I want one so bad!!

And just for future reference, as I have no doubt that you will be able to successfully breed and hatch more of these amazing babies, could you PM me what you are planning on asking for them?

Looks like some green is starting to show through on that baby-time to get out the airbrush!
Euphorbia makes a nice photo plant, kind of hard to hide on it. But, I wonder if the latex juice would have any affect on the chams?

Green is on it's way!

I have always been leery of that myself. I have a 6' Euphorbia that my little guys like to climb on, but anything larger scares me. I wouldn't think it would be too hard to puncture the plant with a larger chameleon's grip. I don't chance it, but they would be nice to use if not for that sap.

Are you firm on $350 shipped each

Not at all...I will gladly take $400.00. I'm just kidding.

This isn't at you Craig, I'm just stating that in general for those who are interested.

Here is the deal, you can get a WC melleri for about $150. Then you will pay another $50 for shipping. Melleri come in dehydrated, injured, and parasite ridden. So, once you go the vet with your animal, get a fecal, testing, medications, etc....that chameleon becomes a $500.00 animal quick. Then, that is only worth it if you can acclimate that animal...which most can't. Melleri stress very easily and they crash quickly. If you don't have the eye to recognize this crash, you just spent $500 for a dead animal. I know, I own 12 adult WC melleri. This is also why you don't see many people with this species. This is sad in itself based off these numbers pulled from the IUCN. Between 1977 - 2011, 50,363 melleri were exported from the country of origin for the pet trade. Now, granted, not all of those animals came to the states, but I'm sure a healthy amount of those animals did. What a waste. Completely horrible.

So, getting a captive born, parasite free acclimated melleri for $350 shipped is a great deal IMO.

I know in your particular case Craig you are wanting to buy them from me wholesale and raise them a bit to sell them and make a profit, but I am just not interested in doing that with this brood. I am screening the heck out of people that are buying these and sending me deposits because I want to know they are going to homes where the people are going to have the best chance at being successful with them for the preservation of the animal itself.

My ultimate goal - It's not about the money. It's about getting this species breeding down pat so that seeing them in captivity becomes as normal as seeing a veiled. I have seen my share of import disasters over the last 18 years working with chameleons and melleri might be the worst of what I have seen.
