baby veileds

chameleon guy

This is a moved thread. I want to know if you can house a baby veiled in a half aquarium and half screen cage and it would be okay. All you do with this is add on top of a regular ten gallon aquarium. It is 20''x10 1/2''x9 1/2''. i have the glass aquarium too. i want to know because there is a tiny male veiled that is at pets'mart that isn't getting proper care.

If you buy him they'll just order another. Is this your first chameleon? if it is, it isn't a good idea to start with an unhealthy one.

I know it doesn't feel like it, but you're doing the species a favor by not buying him- PetSmart is one of the few stores that the managers have all the say in what they order, and many of them care about the animals (otherwise they wouldn't be working there) and don't want to see more die. Please, if you want a Veild, support a responsible breeder.

Edit: and I know this very well, I worked there for most of the last year.

As long as the lil guy can't even possibly fit its head through those holes in the screen or anything, I don't see a problem with it. You might just have a cricket infestation if those bugs are not contained in a cup or something.

For a baby, a glass enclosure wouldn't be too bad (although there is much debate about that). Just make sure you regulate temp, humidity, and ventilation constantly. Glass will keep the heat and humidity longer, and u don't want to fry the lil guy or cause him to get respritory problems.

In the mean time while you have him in the temporary enclosure to keep him safe from the freakin morons at PetSmart...look for another enclosure better suited for a veiled, or even possibly make one yourself.

Ahhh, you prove a good point vaije....by buying him at PetSmart, they may beleive that it is a popular item, then start ordering more and in turn....killing more.

Soooo, ignore what I wrote earlier....Don't Support PetSmart (also known as "PetSdumb").

I saw the poor thing yesterday on the top of the screen trying to get heat. the plants were to low i guess. He was in a small glass enclosure with no dripper(instead a still water bowl), no uvb light, and the cage looked very dry. it is so sad. oh and the holes are way to small for him to fit his head through. Are you guys sure i shouldn't get him?
