My one year old veiled chameleon named Sage is currently dieng, it seems to me that the mister went off, and he got freaked out and ran about, in the process losing grip or balance or something and falling and breaking his ribs. He's currently still alive but dieng fast :( He didn't have parasites or MBD or any weakness that could have caused him to have just fallen. I believe my idea of how it happened is true because I heard the mister go off, some commotion, and then a light thud, :'( he had proper husbandry and everything. I'm in tears :(

Like none. Best I can do and what I have done is put him in a ziploc bag and put him in the freezer :(

That's not painless for them. Not at all. Id use a gun. For lack of better option where I live. Are u most certain he can't pull.through? Pellet gun?

Putting him in the freezer while he is alive is worse than just letting him die on his own. How do you know his ribs are broke?

The ribs seem to be cracked and some pushed in and some pushed out, I gave him a good 2 to 2 and a half hours or maybe even 3 before putting him in. He's also suddenly very skinny now and colors are dark and brownish, he was just laying there in the cage during the time on the towels. His mouth was open and his tongue out which sounds like a classic death scene but I'm really sad about it. Not a sight I'll ever forget. I don't own any sort of gun to kill him with and I'm not comfortable with that option, I took him out of the freezer guys but at this point he looks to have just a few minutes left. The ribs also have 3 of the things completely gone from my sight. If he's still alive by tomorrow which I pray he is then I'll take him to the vet. The only two I can find are closed at the moment.

can you post some pictures of him? you might think his ribs are broke? How long did you put him in the freezer for?. I would have never done that. Sorry....

Had him in about two minutes or so. Right now he's in the same condition but I have no camera, sold mine a couple months ago, tomorrow I'll try to borrow a camera from somebody and take pics if I can

EASY will ya. He said he's broken ribs and is dying. He can't take him to a vet and he's suffering. And my option is alot better than sticking.him in the freezer. I want him to pull through just as much as the OP. I don't like to kill anything at all. but I don't like to see animals suffer.

Im praying he pulls through..

I think it is obvious you were offering an alternative to the freezer knowing that is a horrible idea!

My preference is to let an animal fight until the end unless they are really really old and have been slowly degenerating due to age for many months and is literally done with moving or the outside world.

When animal wants to die it does, you don't need to help.

i agree with this is. i dont want you to help your animal along even if it seems inevitable. i merely responded with this idea because you said you ARE putting him in the freezer... which i hope you realize from people here its more cruel than letting them pass...

away from that now!

how is he doing? any difference? try not to move him around to much, if his ribs are broken badly they can puncture organs and cause internal bleeding.

Sorry guys I've been busy watching over the fella. He's doing a bit better, but barely, he got up for a little bit and walked for a good couple of seconds but went back down, He has taken a small amount of water, I'm currently keeping him in a 15qt vision tub with a towel and some other soft light materials.

Your doin good bud keep it up.. how does his abdomen/chest look when he walked? Still disfigured?

i hope he pulls through... and regardless the out come stay strong and dont blame yourself. if he makes it and has a limp his life or doesnt, it was NOT your fault. you obviously love him and simply have had a horrible hand delt today. i probably would have done something similar. but i can say for sure. nobody can saw what you did was right or wrong bc what you did was for HIM and NOT you which means it was out of love and thats always right in my book. i really hope he makes it. stay positive :) me and my crew are sending good vibes your way

Keep him warm, if you have an infrared bulb use it so he can sleep. If not try keeping him somewhere warm. Mist him to get him to drink. And whatever you do don't be impulsive, he will try till the last second...so you try and do the same. And vet as soon as they open.

I would recommend no bulb. i fear the heat will keep him up. Unless required to keep him In the mid sixties.
