Beardies

You get it hot enough for Ol’ Stinkeye with a 75w? I struggle to get Spike’s temps above 90 with 100w and 150w. Now that he’s awake I need to redo his enclosure. Hopefully I can find that sweet spot for temps with a lower wattage bulb.
Yup.
These are the measured temps (C) of his basking site on top of his mountain.

In Fahrenheit, going across, it's 95, 100, 105, 110

He also has his cork log (not shown), between the mountain and the wall that stays around 95F.

@MissSkittles is there any way you could move Spike's basking platform closer to the bulb itself? I dont know how close it is already to know if that'd be viable/safe but worth asking.

Ah…you have your basking light inside your enclosure. Mine sits on the top screen. I like the way you have that.

I’ve got his basking hammocks set where the uvb level is peak so can’t really go any higher. Maybe a different basking surface would help, like stone.

Yeah, beardies don't necessarily need as much screen. He still gets plenty of ventilation every time the fan kicks on and draws fresh air through the other vents. Some of it was serendipity; all the temps & gradients are spot-on, but it occasionally gets a little too dry, so the plants get misted in the morning, and that takes care of that. 😁

When I built it, I didn't care for all the bulky stuff up top (I've since taken 'the cure'). The original plan was to recess the UVB & plant lights as well, but I didn't have the requisite tools & skill at the time, and now I don't want to mess with it.

It's been a year, so I'm getting the urge to rearrange the furniture, so to speak.

Bath Day. We've gotten the routine down pretty well—it usually takes 15-25 minutes for the spirit to move him (or for him to move out the evil spirits—I'm not entirely sure... )

Today was a record-breaker. I plopped him in the warm water, and he immediately pancaked (usually takes 5 min). I looked down and he was imitating a certain rap lyric I won't offend anyone with.
Then came the inimitable beardie tub-fart followed by a very strained whoosh. Never seen him strain so hard before. After it happened, we could see why.... Sheesh! In college, they called them "screamin' willies". Missus still can't figure out how he passed it. I'm sure it doesn't compare with squeezing out eggs, but it was still wince-worthy. 🤣 Then we remembered he's been eating a lot more salads—must be the roughage. We're thinking he must be clean as a whistle now!

Well, it's over. He's all set for his week and lots of chill time with the folks... 😃

Hanging her belly between the rocks. Haha.
She also made a huge mess with her greens and slung them all over her enclosure....in the process also eating some, so it's ok.
Yup. Ol' Stinkeye does that with both his food and his plants (though not so much the plants lately).

Love those rocks—(y)—still looking for more for his enclosure for a remodel, but everything's frozen under snow right now.

Pretty crazy, huh?
Yes. When we were getting ready for retirement, we researched all 50 states looking to make a change. The water sitch along the Colorado R. combined with climate change predictions scared the heck out of us, so we decided to stay put. Unfortunately, since then things have gotten even worse for many/most folks in the SW US.

And this morning I saw Disney wants to build a planned community around a 24 acre man-made 'oasis' (lake) near Coachella, similar to some they built in FL.

I've also heard/read rationing & other mandates may go into effect (If not already).

...excepting golf courses, of course. No comment. 😶

I heard about this, too. And I think it is absolutely absurd. They are making the oasis so they will have a waterway around their homes. ...like that is what we need here when we are so obviously hurting for water. 🤷‍♀️

I don't even want to think about the HOA & Recreation fees at a place like that.
Can you imagine a dress code (mouse ears?), no dogs larger than a bread box, etc.?

Diet worked! He's still a tub-a-blub, but not as tub-a-blub.
He's been defecating once a week with soaks. This week, 3X and now when I pick him up, his belly gives a little, where before it felt distended.

I think we're good. (y) 🤞
