Black Bars

So my ambanja Cham constantly has black bars. Temps range are 87 for basking and no lower thank 70 at night. Humidity no lower than 55%. Appetite and stool are normal.

Is having black bars normal for a ambanja his age? they're even there when he's outside.

Here's a pic from this morning.

Right when you turn the lights on are the bars black? When I first turn my lights on he's reddish Orange barred but within 5 to 10 mins they go black for the rest of the day. Turns out it's most likely stress. I only had a few vines with no real hiding places for him which stressed him out.

My panther cham gets black bars too, sometimes he goes really dark green with black bars, but I have handled him and he has seemed very content and he goes a lighter green and the black bars turn turquoise.

Yeah he has black bars consistently. I'll have to do a full enclosure evaluation. He has a bunch of hiding spots and he sleeps in the same place every night. Should his basking light be more than 85 degrees?

How old is he? 85 or so is where I keep it for my 6m panther. I bet you look at him while he's sleep those bars won't be black.

I am not so sure that is an Ambanja. Where did you get him from? He looks more like an Ambilobe but I could be wrong. Bars that look like that would be his resting colors, and not necessarily stress.

Appreciate the replies, I'm thinking they're his resting colors. If he's a ambilobe, tamitave, ambanja or a mix as long as he isn't stressed is my main concern.

Hate to sound like a newbie (but I am) would these different locales change his care requirements?

Mines an ambilobe and he is dark green with black/purple bars most of the time too. They are probably his resting colours. He only ever really shows his colours when hunting or free ranging but even then I've only ever seen him flare up properly twice lol, no need to worry some are just more relaxed than others :D
