My hubby recently bought me a Blue Crown Conure (Parrot species). He's three months old and is named Cody. We had to wait a month while he was being weaned by the breeder. I never thought I could have a bird because of our cats. I learned earlier this year that the larger parrot species could live in homes with cats. They are big enough to look threatening and have a beak and voice that wards off predators. Our cats were interested in him for a few days but have seemed to figure out that he's part of the house now. They also do not like the loud shreiks that Cody is capable of producing if they get close to his cage. He's a smart boy. After a week he has already learned to obey the "up command" onto my hand with little hesitation. He adores having his head and neck scratched and petted like a dog. His wings are trimmed so he can't fly buy can gently glide from hand to perch, etc. His species are supposed to be fairly good talkers. They usually start when they are about a year old. Anybody else got a parrot?
