Brave fell. Back legs issues. STILL temporal gland issues.

Good! I'm really rooting for little Brave. There's been so much sadness on the forum this month, I'm sure we all really want him to pull through. Keep us posted after the vet visit. Those temporal gland infections are wicked. Ferdinand's face went from fine to extremely swollen overnight, although I think it had been festering for awhile...

Feel better soon, Brave!

I am concerned about the gland infection, a lot, actually. I am seeing if I can get to a vet as soon as I can. It is kind of difficult for me sadly, but I will do it if necessary, which it probably is right now.

It looks more like tiny buildup in the corners of his mouth but it is still a concern.

maybe his horns being a bit too short is also a concern.

Good good news everybody.

He is VERY active today, and his back legs seem fine. He had a lot of baby dubias hiding in the leaves of his cage so I rounded them all up into an OLD DIY feeder cup (waterbottle with carpet in it, you know the story) and fed a few to him already.

He seems a lot chunkier and happier right now, hopefully this will help with what is going on. Maybe he was weak because I didn't have A CLUE he wasn't eating. There were maybe 20 dubias hidden in the cage.

Now he has a little dripper set up too, so that will help his hydration in the mean time. I've seen him drink from it too. Now he will no longer have to rely on us manually giving him water most of the day.

Hopefully this helps and I am still trying to get a vet visit in order for the temporal glands.

I thought he might have had a bruise or broken ribs, but everything has cleared up today. He even looks a little green.

I thought the little guy was close to death, but oh my gosh! False alarm. (For the most part)

He is happy as can be right now except the little corners of his mouth. That is the only present issue as he is NO LONGER using the screen as a pathway (he was probably foraging for food, poor little guy) and is nice and plump and using his legs okay. :)

Thanks for reading. I will clear up the temporal gland issue soon! Hopefully this is a good sign...

Usually the dubias stay put in a cup, but he would not eat them. So I hand fed him some and let some go in his cage every day. Usually he would get a few, then I'd stop watching him. Apparently they would hide in some leaves pressed against the top.

Also he is a SLOW HUNTER/EATER. SLOOOOW. So that is probably the reason they got away too.

That sounds like good news. :) I would still get him to the vets real soon.

Yep thats the plan :)

I am so glad that it was just a food issue (which obviously is still a concern)

Anyone have any clue why he hunts so slow? I watch him hunt a few minutes ago and it took him around 30 secs of staring at a wiggly roach in my hand to eat it. Then he sits with it in his mouth FOREVER unless I spray him a little with water.

Do you offer him a variety of feeders? That might spark his interest.

Yeah, sometimes little baby crickets and sometimes little tiny superworms. He likes the worms especially :)

I will save some money up after the vets and see if I can get some horn worms too maybe.

Sometimes my guyz take a while before they decide to zap a feeder in my hand, esp if I feed them every day.
If I hold off feeding for a day, the next day they are more likely to snap it right up w/o hesitaion.

Also, they do hold the prey in their mouth for a while.
They do that to wait for them to die before they start chewing.
Maybe because it may escape if they start chewing before it's dead??!!

Is there any swelling or just the buildup in the corners? Is it dark buildup or just kind of waxy looking? Have you had Jacksons before or is this your first one? Jacksons have more buildup of the waxy substance than panthers or veiled do and sometimes when mine opens his mouth it looks like he has little waxy tusks in the corners. It's totally normal for them. If there is swelling then that is worrisome for infection, but otherwise you may just be seeing normal discharge.

You can some significant buildup on my Jackson Buster here at the corners of the mouth when you look for them:

There WAS swelling a couple days ago, now I do not see any. Just the buildup. But I am still concerned--his top lip slightly hangs over his bottom lip in those areas. I wouldn't call it swelling, but you can see it clearly in the picture.

Do I still have anything to worry about?

I created this thread since he was having back leg issues and falling but it seems the hunting was the problem- he must have not been getting food due to his poor hunting skills.

He was kept in pretty much a 10 inch long by 4 inch wide cricket container before so that probably has him set on hunting skills :\

he just fell right now but it was because he was on the ceiling. he caught himself by only his tail. do you think he needs a bigger cage? is that also an issue? He is like 3-4 inches long but has a 16x16x20 cage.

i heard a noise and then looked behind me and there he was.

helped him up (the thing above his head is a feeding cup. I covered the edges with duct tape so it doesn't hurt them) it doesnt look like there is a branch to the feeding cup, but there is, it goes to the top/middle of the cup

If calcium and D3 are being supplemented correctly, are you sure other vitamins are being provided in enough balance? I was having tongue issues with my Jax a while back that I suspected was a nutritional issue. The tongue issues are better after making some significant changes to my supplements and gutloading..m. But we are now dealing with an edema problem that just popped up. I only mean that Jax seem to be so sensitive to nutritional issues, you need to really evaluate everything you are doing very critically. Muscle issues can be vitamin related. Obviously, I'm not a vet, so take my advice for what it's worth and no more than that.

I'm now reading through everything again trying to figure out the edema. Overnight, my little guy turned into a linebacker...

No, he is getting correct supplements BUT he is not eating the roaches dusted with cal very fast (when I do dust them).

Like I said I found around 20 friggin roaches hiding under leaves. So like 10 of those had calcium which he did not eat.
