Breeding. Can u mix diff panthers

IDK it would be interesting to hear an answer to that from panther breeders. I don't think receptive females stuck in cages get to pick and choose very often or even avoid less desirable males.

I wonder if the relative low incidence of crosses in the wild isn't regulated more by female color preference than proximity.

The article I posted does touch on that. And I would have to agree that it is very likely that is the case.

It's well known that importers in the past have passed off females of one locale as another for profit. The Nosy Faly story is also pretty well documented and probably has a lot of truth to it. Calling that a shame is a major understatement. The entire locale has been compromised by this whether it's readily visible to our eye or not.

When we use the term SPECIES we have to be care about how much importance we give it. You have to remember that the idea of what a species is and who is included under the umbrella of a certain species is ENTIRELY A MAN MADE CONCEPT.

This is where locale, and again I'm not speaking only about panther locales, becomes more important than species. It's concrete. It's measurable. It's not a man made concept. Where one continuous population exists, it should be preserved as such. And so on and so forth.

You've got something occurring in one place, and something incredibly similar yet very different occurring in another place, and the two don't seem to mix.

The fact is, whether we see what's dividing these locales or not, they've been divided. It's not a question of why or how, but an acknowledgment that's it's already done.

Since I have a locale cross, I'd figure I can add my .02. My 'tour of Madagascar' came from very reputable breeder and I also received his lineage breakdown. I have NO plans on breeding him but have had a few people contact me asking if I would like to. I was drawn to the locale crosses because I wanted something different and I couldn't decide on ambilobe, ambanja, sambava, nosy be, etc. So why not get all?!

Ryker's a locale cross, but I got him from a reputable breeder that has been doing the crossing for years and is probably one of the few who is accepted. I have never considered even breeding him. The odd joke comes across but never thought of it even when he was young and healthy. I can say he is super friendly and has never fired up when introduced to his reflection... He likely would have never been a good breeder in that respect too, he just doesn't care XD. But I love him for his chill behavior and he is like polar opposites when he does get upset or put on his pajamas compared to his normal colors.
