Broken Finger Nail

Hey All,

So my little guy Thor (8 months old Ambilobe) has a broken "finger" nail. I noticed it when I got him on his free range yesterday.

I tried to get a picture but its too small to see. It basically looks like his nail was bent backwards and pull out of his toe alittle bit. There was a real small drop of blood where the nail and the the toe meet. It was not bleeding outright though, it had already dried.

What precautionary steps should I take to prevent any infection?

Is it true that if the nail was pulled out it will not grow back but if it was just broken off it will grow back?

Thanks in advance

Kyle

It happens a lot when larger chameleons are climbing on screen. The only real solution is to use a screen with larger openings or a plastic screen. Greenhouse shade cloth works well for the sides of screen cages but you would need to remove the metal screen and respline the shade cloth.

I've never seen them grow back. To prevent infection you could always put a dab of Neosporin on the affected toe.

My male glacier, a nosey something, (be i think)

Came to me with several missing toenails.

There was a slight pock mark on the toes where the nails should be, so I assumed the toe nails would not grow back.

9-10 months later, i finally saw nails growing.

Now I can't guarentee that they didnt get pulled out at the bed, but it sure appeared that way.

He now has all his toenials back, it just took a super super super long time.
