Chameleon Escape

I have a fishers chameleon, and every time I open the cage door, he makes a run for it, and tries to climb out. Is this because he is unhappy or just wants to explore? Thanks!

My Ambilobe does the same, most of the time. But I got him a bigger cage he doesn't do it as often but still begs to be let out and will b-line it to my face. XD

I am kicking myself..I bought a silk tree a couple months ago and would put one of my chams on the tree when I noticed they seemed restless in their cage. None of them ever came off the tree, even after often leaving them overnight on the tree..which by the way I removed all lower branches and all of them were familar with the tree.
Well today was the first day of warmth and sunshine since forever, so I moved the tree outside by my front door and placed one Cham at a time on the tree for an hour or so...replacing them with another after an hour in the sunlight. They really seemed to enjoy the fresh air and real sunlight.
So I finally put my translucent veiled female who just got bred the other day and she was fine..I came out and took a few photos of her and then a few minutes later, came back to take her in and she was GONE...so much for free ranging at least for this house.
I looked for her for the rest of the day and into the night then even called in some neighbors kids to help me look. Finally I "escaped tested" under close scutiny another Cham to see what kind of behavior they would have if suddenly on the ground..the little bugger ran like he was on speed..he was scooped up and returned safely to his cage. I handle my veileds on a regular basis and they seem to be fine with being handled. Also, I occasionally hand water them while holding them and they will drink like drunken sailors! They really do have personalities and each are different!
Night has fallen and I am so upset with myself and unhappy that I took the chance to free range outside and even more so, her because I raised her from a baby and she was awesome..
I have visions of the neighbors cat stalking her, a car running over her or a scared woman "killing it' not knowing what that creature is..I still hold out hope that someone will find her and return her..but I am not counting on this happening.
I will invest in some of those hanging cages so they can spend some real time sunshine outside, but I will never, ever, free range on a outside tree again..
I hope my loss will help others never make this mistake. Now I have to save up to get another high trans veiled female..:(

Oh no!!! :(( I'm so sorry!!! I bet you anything she's high up in a tree. I really hope you find her! Don't give up! And please keep me updated i want to know if she will be alright :(

You need to take a very strong flashlight and go outside while it is dark to look for her. If you are lucky she is sleeping on the end of a branch where you can see her. They really show up at night when a light is shined on them. Go look, don't give up so easily, she needs you.

Good posting!!!

Weird, once I caught wild lizard, it's a local lizard and keep it for like few days. Let it go again and suddenly re-caught by my grandma. yeah, it's so weirdddd... But there's possibility your female veiled will be around. Not to add up to your sad story but I couldn't imagine wild cat or wild predators get a hold on her if I were you.
Hope you find here back.

MadSinse95-So Sorry for your loss; I am new and was looking at some big laundry baskets that are netted at the dollar store for my babies to go on the balcony and i am a little worried; The ones at walmart have an opening at the top of them and i can see a baby cham just getting out of that pretty quick; And man they are quick.I am hoping your baby has just went to sleep as other's have said and please look for her as she will be very fightened without you and not know what's happening.Good Luck and hope you find her soon. :( sorry you are missing her- I would put up some posters in the area - that way if someone finds her, they know she is not "wild" or a pet just turned lose - keep looking- dont give up !!
