Chameleon is lethargic and only eats hornworms

Merlin has been acting kind of strange the past few months. He generally doesn't move out of his sleep spot during the day unless I pick him up and move him. He eats hornworms, but refuses to eat anything else and he waits weeks between poops. The last time he pooped, there was a lot of mucus-like stuff between the urate and the feces as well as interspersed with the feces.

Other than that, he seems healthy. His eyes aren't sunk in. His grip is strong. He doesn't look gaunt. He gets a little bloated right before he poops, but I'd guess that's expected if he only poops every 2 to 4 weeks. Sometimes he needs some warm water soaking or some time outside in the sun to get things moving.

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - year and a half old ambilobe panther chameleon
  • Handling - Variable. Anywhere from once a week to once every couple days
  • Feeding - He refuses to eat anything but hornworms. Tried superworms, crickets, dubia roaches. He used to eat crickets and superworms all the time. We feed him every day to every other day, depending on the size of the hornworms.
  • Supplements - Calcium without D3 every feeding. Multivitimin once every week or two.
  • Watering - Automatic mister and a dripper
  • Fecal Description - Very infrequent. It can be weeks between poops. Some time we need to soak him in a warm water bath or take him outside in the sun for a while. The last one seemed to have quite a bit of mucus in it. It used to be more typical, but this has developed over the past couple months.
  • History - We got him about a year ago. He's been healthy. The vet found him to be healthy on a visit a few weeks ago. Fecal analysis a few months ago were clean.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - large home made cage. It's made of mesh, but we've added clear plastic and glass to keep the humidity up.
  • Lighting - Reptisun 10.0, 24" bulb.
  • Temperature - 70° down low to 85° in the basking spot
  • Humidity - 50-60%
  • Plants - Three live pothoses
  • Placement - In the living room
  • Location - Salt Lake City, Utah

He's a stunner! Well all the hornworms will cause runny bowel movements since they are essentially all water. My adult panther goes weeks without BMs as well and hardly ever deficates in his enclosure (loves to poop on my arm though:confused:). Your husbandry seems pretty spot on, hopefully more experienced members can give some insight.
