China Cabinet transformation

My husband transformed a china cabinet into a our chameleons home. It is beautiful. He put a lot of hard work into this amazing transformation. Its equipped with 2 uv bulbs 2 night heat lamps (red) two day time heat lamps a mister a dripper a cool mist humidifier a small computer fan for ventilation a small fountain live and fake plants lots of vines and sticks for climbing we are very proud of our hard work and we hope our chameleon Smaug is happy

The cage sounds beautiful!!! but there are a few things that you could change. You really should not have a fountain in the cage because 1) your chameleon could drown 2) it is a great place for bacteria to grow and unless you are going to clean it out every day it could make smaug very sick. Also about the lights what UVBs are you using (ex: 5.0 ) and to much UVB is not good. There should be any light on at night( even the red) chameleons are very sensitive to light and it will mess up their sleep. If you are worried about him getting cold then you could use a space heater run though the night like I do or get a light bulb that gives of heat but no light. At night the temp could drop down to the 60s and he will be ok. You really should read the care sheet

You have to post some pics! I commented on your other thread to welcome you. If you want to determine the sex of a veild you check the back feet. The back heel has a little point called a tarsal spur. Only the males have it. If you are not sure, post a pic of the back feet and we can tell you. When they are that young, that is really the only way to tell the sex as the colors don't start coming in to later and then you can distinguish sex. The advice you were given above is good. Waterfalls are really frowned upon in the chameleon world. Red lights too. Red is not a natural color as it does not replicate the sun. Most, if not all of us, use white bulbs, and just an ordinary white housebulb will do. One 5.0 uvb light(tube style preferred). You could have more than one basking spot if your cage is large enough. You chameleon can take temps down into the 50's so no heat unless it gets this cold. If so, you can use a ceramic heat emitter bulb which does not produce light, but just heat. It can be screwed into one of the light domes. Also, be careful of making it too humid and damp as chameleons are prone to respiratory infections. Your humidity should not stay constant, but rise and fall.

2 night heat lamps (red)

You don't want those.

You want a temperature drop at night so your chameleon's metabolism can slow down for a deep sleep.

My panther chameleons routinely go down right near 50 during the cooler months, my veileds sometimes go down as low as 40 degrees.

Wow thanks for the info. I would love to post a picture but still don't know how to. LOL. I was reading the the other forums about the night lights and we are changing them out tonight. About the fountain we did put a screen on it so there is no way she could fall in and drown but the bacteria growth i did not think of. We will take it out as well. So two light uvb light bulbs is to much?

The two side windows are made of acrylic. We removed the glass for safety. We bought it at Lowes
