Hay guys.

Live in scotland, and its cold. a lot, even in summer, so getting a wooden viv for my new chameleon.

I have been looking for a safe varnish or sealant to use on the inside of the viv to make it water tight, as I dont want the water system to degrade the wood.

I have been looking at products from B&Q, DIY.com and HomeBase.co.uk two of the main DIY stores in the UK.

Both have Yacht Varnish which I was told worked for others, but wanted to know if any of you have experience with this already, or with other wood sealers.

thanks in advance dont wana use something that might harm the little guy.

I don't know if this will work. But alot of people that have koi ponds here in the usa are using the stuff that you spray on the truck beds in the koi ponds. Bedliner, its gray or black only I think. But check in to it before you use it for the chameleon. I know it would be water tight. Good luck

you would need to give me a product name or more details. and I think if itsd used in koi ponds then it should be non toxic and safe for animals.

hiya, i live in the u.k also so i know what ya mean about the cold, so i too use half wooden vivs, and i have just used yacht varnish for my chams wooden enclosure and i have been advised that as long as it is totaly totaly totaly dry and well aired and the smell has gone it will be fine, so i have used the yacht varnish from b.q and a smallish tub did a whole double wardrobe sized viv,i have let it air for about 1-2 weeks and then check that the smell is gone. hope this helps otherwize you could use some sort of resine?? or swimming pool grout and then resin to waterproof only thing is ,this will be pretty heavy to moove!! good luck hope it all is good for your cham!!. !
