So she has been trying to escape her tall big net cage we live in south Florida and I’ve been bringing her in at night since it’s below 60s wheels on bottom of cage. Eating great drinking so not sure what’s going on very confused! Her colors are different! I’ll included picture of cage and of her coloring! Her cage FYI it’s over 6ft and has places close to top too sit. I need advice PLEASE!!!

Hey there. When did she lay eggs last? Females lay infertile eggs even when not with a male. She is very hefty and showing edema. That is the swelling around her neck and throat. You can see this in females when they are gravid. Her trying to escape is a classic sign she is looking for a place to lay her eggs. Put in a lay bin asap... Egg binding is high risk should she hold them too long.

Depending on how much she is eating she very well could be ready to lay again. 39 is a larger clutch. She may even have retained a few eggs from that clutch. Females are a bit more difficult due to reproductive issues that can happen. If there is not a lay bin in there now I would add one back in just in case. A vet visit would be a good idea especially with the edema going on. If your supplements are correct then the edema is connected to something internal happening. A vet can xray to see what is going on with potential eggs.

Thank you had Kay been in there for weeks but definitely going to vet to check her out! Thank You!!! I feed her every 2-3 days depending on how much she eats but vet is the safest thank you

Just a little thing to add -If you have a suitable outdoor enclosure, leave her there overnight. They are fine and can benefit from lower night temps. I kept mine out into the high 40s at times(though I prefer 50s at least). South Florida doesn’t look to be dipping below high 50s.

So update she has a clutch of 22 eggs went to vet and she’s super healthy from blood work no edema it was eggs push up in her body since she was Gravid and we gave her a shot at vet to help her get the eggs out and on our way home she started to drop eggs! So I have a healthy chameleon with perfect blood work and everyone at the exotic vet said she is the most calm Cham and super friendly they have ever met and was told how lucky I am

Basically it was a success to get her eggs out and knowing she’s super healthy! Thank you to everyone! For your help and advice greatly appreciated!!!!

Hopefully she got all the eggs out. If so, the size of this clutch was good…and you may have her diet and temperatures at the right level now to keep her from developing follicular stasis or egg binding (dystocia).

You said the vet gave her a shot…oxytocin?

Hi yes and have us more to take home too repeat again after 3 days they showed us how too do that in the vets office she had 13 more eggs yesterday! So I have a follow up and hopefully that’s it but now she’s digging so maybe this clutch is way bigger then I expected she lives in south Florida outside hosing we built her so it’s perfect environment like in the wild for her!

No matter how big the clutch is, it should be laid all at one time. If the chameleon is going back to dig again then it’s possible she will still retain eggs after the oxytocin has been given…so make sure the vet checks to see she has laid them all and in the meantime watch for signs that she hasn’t…lethargy, sitting low in the cage, eyes shut during the day, etc.

Also, be aware that usually if they are having problems laying with the present clutch, the issues for the next clutch may be worse and she may need to be spayed.
