Concerned again with Pascal

Thanks guys, my vet has truly been amazing. Great group. I am watching h close. Quick question, that I hope you guys can help with. Right now if I place silkworms in his mouth he will eat them. How many at a time should I try? He is up to 6 medium sized ones. Thanks again for all the kind words.

Great news !!. Right now he needs as much hydration as possible . They have a high nutritional value and hydration . I would think 4 to 6 is ok .
 
He pooped his diarrhea explosion on Saturday and then just a very tiny amount yesterday. I am definitely working on keeping him hydrated as much as possible. Thank guya
 
Unfortunately, I haven't seen him eat or drink on his own. He definitely 100% isn't eating on his own. The drinking I just haven't seen him do it. Every day he get 3cc of 50/50 Pedialyte and water. Then he either get his carnivore care. Usually around 6cc or his silkworms that I place in his mouth. He is taking anything that I put in his mouth so far. He still gets his misting and showers also.
 
Hey sweetie can you link me to your older thread Currently? Plan to do some back history stuff. Why was he on metacam? How long? It's a harsh medication. Has he only pooped once in seven days? You said? The explosive diarrhea episode? It may not be something to worry about yet... especially since his food is mostly soft bodied feeders and liquid food. It often gets absorbed easier and can take a while for them to poop then. And the poops are smaller than you'd expect. Cause it's all digested better.

I have many multiple posts previous to this. I didn't realize you guys like to just continue one long post until someone pointed it out to me.

So anyways, it all started back in July. I noticed he didn't pooped for a while. He actually never had been a good pooper. He would go every 1-2 weeks only. Well back at the end of July it was going on 3 weeks. He also wasn't eating well. So I made his first vet appointment. We did x-rays and his exam showed a fecal impaction. He got a enema, but nothing was produced. He was put on Cisapride to help move things through. The very next day I woke to him not gripping with his back legs at all. My vet then prescribed the Metacam because she thought he was painful.

Moving along with the story he has had 3 enemas, was also prescribed Metaclopermide and Tramadol as well. Still nothing. She always wanted me to push hydration, so he gets showered and oral fluids as well. He even had Sub-q fluids once. He wasn't on the Tramadol long because he started open mouth gapping it. That stopped once the med stopped.

On the 19th of this month I came home from work to find that he had diarrhea ALL over his enclosure. There was even a touch of blood in it. Hence, the term diarrhea explosion. He pooped a tiny amount last Thursday as well.

I just got off the phone with my vet and she isn't to worried yet. She completely agreed with what you said Andee. It may just take a little longer to get things moving. So that is where we are at. She did start him on a kidney supplement to help support them.

I agree with keeping fluids going. What are you doing with the liquid diet, just carnivore care? The explosive diarrhea may have been because he had SO much backed up and it finally just all came out. How is he acting otherwise?More perky? More sickly? Have you gotten him any outside time?I am wondering if some moving outside would help with regular BMs. I have had chams who were adults who had normal movements but only 1 time a week. But since he was so backed up... that's worrisome.
 
How regularly is regular? You may want to stop the carnivore care then... he does need supplemental D3 if he get natural UVB for at least 2-3 hours cummulatively a week
 
Hi again, sorry guys been a day here. Anyways, I have been doing 50/50 Pedialyte and water 3cc orally once a day. He gets a 20-30 minute shower once a day. He gets misted every 2 hours. He gets 6-8cc of Carinvore care once a day unless he eats his silkworms. I do take him outside as much as possible. As for his pooping, one I first got him he would only go about once every one to two weeks. It seems like he came with a pooping problem of that makes sense. He still seems like himself except his back grip is weak and he won't eat on his own. I think I answered all the questions...if I missed some let me know. I appreciate any and all advice. I am really really trying to pull him through this. I think my biggest question is how much to feed? I'm I doing alright or not enough? Thanks again.
 
I haven't read your whole story @Rapunzel's Pascal. Why was he prescribed cisapride, metoclopramide, and metacam?

Cicapride is used to move things through the gut. A side effect is diarrhea. It has been taken off the (human) market for its serious deadly side effects.

Metoclopramide is used to empty the stomach more quickly. It is also a drug that no gastroenterologist will ever prescribe based on its side effects. One side effect is diarrhea--that's the minor side effect.

Why is your vet prescribing them?

There have been zero studies of drugs on reptiles. No one knows how a reptile metabolizes drugs. Dosages are guesses based on mammalian studies.
