Discreet Feeder Shipping (packaging)!

Well I'm sure most of you guys are home owners and don't care what ends up at your doorstep and if it's discreetly packaged.
I live in NYC, and my building would surely issue me an eviction notice if they ever knew I was receiving LIVE Insects!

I can't have ANYTHING delivered to my building that says LIVE on it, let along Insects! I now have to resort to having them shipped to my job or an alternate address.

Anyone else have this issue and have to resort to hiding their feeder deliveries? Are any feeder companies offering discreetly packaged feeders?

The few times i have ordered feeders online they have came packaged with no doubt as to whats inside.

they probibly have to post that on there to keep people in the delivery service from mis-handeling the package. delivery elsewhere may be your only option i dont think some place will even delever to a po box so i wouldnt waste my money with that.

The thing is , i doubt they even take caution even if it's writen on the box.

It's an inside joke in the shipping world that if you want your package ruffed up extra title it "FRAGILE". lol

I just don't want if there were to ever be an infestation in my building that i be blamed for it just because i am a KNOWN recipient of LIVE insects.

I have not had a single escape of ANY feeder at my place.

I currently have B.Dubia, Crickets, Supers, pheonix and butterworms. I watch each one of my Chams eat EVERY single feeder i offer.

A plain brown box would do fine wehn shipped i think. Even my job might have an issue is Live Insects were visiable.

Im pretty sure laws protect people that pay rent to do what you want in your space. Either way your neighbors still may hate you and they'd push for your eviction regardless if you allowed to or not legally. I say if you are legally allowed to have them insects in your county you are legally allowed to have them on your property. Unless your breaking written rules that specify no insects. I don't even think that would fly in court though to evict someone. Id call their bluff and feed my insects. If your so good at it to with no escapees then there shouldn't be any issue what so ever. I know some times its easier just be discreet but i find it unnecessary.

So you are only allowed what certain people consider acceptable into the building or are there rules.

i doubt thats true think thats why you pay pet deposits and most places want to know any additions, im sure my landlord will freak if she sees mine im hoping that day wont come, i know one thing i changed my locks along time ago renters dont have to many rights in my exp.

No most places thats not true they tell you can't smoke or have a pet. You move in get that pet and you pay for that place that is your place to do what you want in. That is how it is here in Cleveland. Some places in Northern California were like that too.

so living in my apartment My neighbor can bring in 25 guns and alcohol , but I can't bring in 1000 crickets. What if someone is shot its my neighbors fault then.Even if he didn't do it. This makes no sense. Unless there is a rule saying you aren't allowed to feeders in the contract which I doubt. If its in the contract then your right no way of getting around it you are not allowed to have them and shouldn't probably try hiding them.

It's a new building . They have pet limitations . Like you can only own a dog of a certain breed and size! A few people found a loophole by listing their Pitbulls as "Lab mix or Terrier mix"!

Most tenents have 1-2 year lease . What they did last year was rewrite the dog requirements and stated "no Lab/Terrier mix" dogs. This is then to be signed by the tenents , thus binding them to acknowledge that going into the new lease you can no longer own your dog!

I assume they have not catered for reptile owners. They can possible do the same to me with my pets. No "live insect" eating reptiles , or some nonsense!

I know if I went and told my land lord I got 35 reptiles I bet he'd flip a brick. Not be happy, but guess what you don't know don't hurt you sometimes.:D then tell him I got sugar gliders cats and stupid little dog. Id probably be on his mind about finding a new tenant.

Lol, yea. I'm trying to go by the "what they don't know won't get me evicted" lol.

They know I have a Cockatoo, which someone already complained was "too loud"! I'd hate to see my lease next year with mentioning about reptile or bird limitations. I'd have to give them up in that case.

lmaoo. If someone was to get shot, it may not be by your neighbor. But guess who would get questioned FIRST!! lmaoo

Lets just say there was someone else in my building that had a colony of B.Dubia roaches or Crickets , I'm talking 1000+. And the bin falls over . If some were to escape to where they would be seen by building workers or other tenants. Guess who would be questioned FIRST. lol

Building owners are paranoid about ANY item or action that may deture people from renting or lower property value. Insect infestation being one of them. They would fight me tooth and nail. I may win in the end, but there is a chance I may loose. A chance I can not take. I have kids and a family I need to house first , before ANY pets.

So if a $1 unmarked brown box saves me this risk, then so be it! If not i'll be forced to buy locally, or breed my own!

Have them shipped for HOLD at Location. You still risk the above regardless how you got them in you building .

They ship USPS mostly . I know FedEx allows for location pick-up. But what about USPS? (calling now, lol)

And getting them into my building is the easy part ,I have a large "shopping bag" justtt for this , lol!;)

It's just when i have them shipped, they are signed for by the doorman and held at the frontdesk untill someone picks the delivery up. They have enough time to (out of curiousity) fiddle with the package, or hear insects scratching etc.

The last couple of packages I had shipped were marked "hold at Post Office for pick-up" mainly due to the colder weather, but you could probabaly have them marked that way & get them at the local Post Office...

Just called, and it is an option. Perfect. I can deal with the strange stares at the Post Office wehn i pick them up.. lol

I deal with a similar thing, I don't want the packages delivered when I'm out and end up in the office and have to explain it. I live across my university and could make up an excuse that we need them for the bio department but still, probably better not to deal with it. I have them delivered to the Fedex/UPS/USPS center for me to pick up when I can, which is better.

In all my leases it has stated something along the lines of "apart from the pets listed on the lease [like my dog] no other animals will be allowed, including other dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, fish, and insects." It definitely says insects. So it's a rule, I just don't know how well they stick to it.

My reptiles aren't on the lease but I've never had a problem with a couple chameleons, but bugs are creepier.

I am in Cleveland also... Cleveland is mega B-tchs about this sort of thing. What I've been doing is just suck it up and go to a PetsMart or something and buy a lot all at once. Then you can carry it in under your coat or in a box or whatever no dramas.

Don't push anything that you aren't sure of. If you are keeping a pet or insects or whatever when it's against your landlord's rules (usually their pet policy) you can get kicked out for sure. Why don't you ask if the insects are okay? (assuming it's alright that you have lizards.)

If they are being sent USPS, I'm not sure it's legal to not mark the package in some way. I can't remember if that's only with actual animals or if it applies to insects too. However, you can certainly mark it in very, very small letters.

If you want to be sure, you would have to check with the US department of agriculture I believe.

What kind of insects are you trying to buy?

I am pretty sure me mentioning insects in my apt will be met with resistance from building management. So i will not even entertain the through. They don't know i have reptiles and i'm trying to keep it that way.

I have been working with Dave at Small Pet Feeders. And i'll have my crickets sent to my local Post Office for pick up (shipping bulk insects 1000 + in a closed, non-vented box might have them overheat from share numbers and cause die off). .This will work , i dont mind picking them up and putting them in a large bag to enter the building.

I will also be getting a pod of hornworms, and some B.Dubia roaches, which can be send discreetly in an unmarked box.

I also just ordered some butterworms from ChameleonsNorthWest, and they will also be shipped in a plain unmarked box.
