Distilled water?

Have question about distiller water instead of purified water .distiller water is pure of minerals and will absorb minerals mostly calcium Magnisum and trace minerals that's why they say sodas are so bad for you because human urine shows a bigger loss of these after drinking (soda uses distiller water) so if that's true and we are trying to give our chams cal for bones is this the water we should use small amounts drank by humans will detox your body but long periods of consumption will remove minerals from your body just looking for advise if I'm thinking is off:cool:

Their physiology is completely different than a humans. You really just have to worry about chlorine and fluoride levels in the water you use if I'm not mistaken. You have to remember their bodies don't excrete toxins through urination like humans, so it can build up and cause problems. Just stick to RO water or distilled and save yourself from the long argument lol

Will fluoride actually hurt them though? I always use filtered water from the fridge for mine, I have never noticed a problem..

Yea I think that I'll stick to ro water for the mister and see how it does I know distilled water dissolves stuff and even will dissolve metal

unless you live in mexico or somewhere else where the water is pretty bad i dont think tap water hurts, i only use distilled on my misters so they dont clog the hose or the nozzle with minerals

I live in las Vegas and they say our water district has one of the highest standards but it sure doesn't taste like it my tap is filtered but have a water store close that has r/o water and uv treated

You need to be wary of fluoride. Many cities fluoridate to quite high levels, so you should contact your water authority to find out what is in your water.

Fluoride toxicity (fluorosis), due to accumulation from long-term consumption of high levels, is associated with deformed bones and soft, mottled, and irregularly worn teeth. Animals fed diets deficient in protein, calcium, and vitamin C are more susceptible to fluorosis. Water sources containing high levels of fluoride are found in parts of Arkansas, California, South Carolina, and Texas and may be a risk for fluorosis. In reptiles, fluorosis can mimic the signs of metabolic bone disease (MBD)

Dunno where you get your info but everything you've said is wrong.

Soda is a diuretic, it's not because they use distilled water.

There are usually half a million violations to clean water rights in the USA in a year and nothing has to be done about it. Most municipalities do not have the funds to fix all the problems with water.

By law they are only required to remove contagious pathogens such as typhoid, and dangerously high levels of only a few contaminants such as arsenic. Everything else is on your shoulders.

The problem is that if the government is doing their job (by adding chlorine to kill bugs), they can legally tell you that you 'have the best water in the world!' Which is a lie.

Here is a link to your city's water report go to page 9 to see the results: http://www.cityofhenderson.com/utility_services/docs/2008_water_quality_report.pdf

You should note that that is by no means a thorough water analysis, and only covers maybe 10-15% of what is in the water. They do not cover aluminum which is often used in water treatment in the form of aluminum suphate. There would also be about 30 other contaminants listed, plus a diagnostic pesticide scan of about 300 pesticides, if it were a truly thorough analysis.

Keep in mind that although we are talking about ppm and ppb, heavy metals build up in your fat tissue, liver, and kidneys, and high calcium content in water can be a major cause of heart disease. You need clean water to help flush those USELESS minerals and metals, so the body can be nourished by organic minerals and metals from vegetables and fruits. NONE of the elements present in water are organic, which means they can't be very well used in the body, which means it has to either build up somewhere over the decades in your body or the body has to work hard to excrete them. The minerals in water come from dirt. Dirt is what plants eat to get their minerals, they change the minerals into organic components, and we along with most other animals get our nourishment from plants or from eating other animals that eat plants.

What chameleons drink in the wild is rain water, which IS distilled water. A good quality reverse osmosis creates the same or similar quality water as distilled.

People shouldn't be drinking tap water, and fridge filters, or simple carbon filter (pitcher) only remove the taste and odor, but not the actual contaminants (basically it fools your taste buds into thinking it is clean water). There's a reason certain diseases are so prevalent and no one ever thinks of what might be in the water.

Tap water is good for washing your car and flushing the toilet, and really that's about all it should be used for. Showering, cooking, and drinking should all be done with purified water.

If you are concerned about minerals, there are additives you can buy to put minerals back into the water after it's been purified, that's what I do.

Sorry maybe you misunderstood I wasn't saying colas health issues as a diuretic just that distilled water might have issues . Coke Pepsi colas in general use distilled water.as a pipe fitter by trade I have installed them and steam boilers that do the same process as distilled water manufactures they heat the water to boiling point and when steam returns to liquid by cooling it breaks down co2 gas which makes carbonic acid and will eat through a piece of heavy pipe in 6months unless treated to raise the ph .pour distilled water on your concrete and it will dissolve the calcium in it and make it brittle after time.rain is not distilled water because it's falling through atmosphere and pricking up elements on it way back to the ground. I'm not even an amature at knowing the chameleons physiology but am very educated at the process of boiling water and it property's and how to counter act them one way being placing a calcium based product to raise the ph to none acidic levels so that's what made me ask the question earlier

Distilled water is just pure water. It's nothing magical, it's just very clean. Chameleons have evolved to drink pure, clean water. They drink rain water, not ground water. They do not need the minerals and other substances found in ground water.

It's true that animals (like humans) who rely largely on ground water do benefit from the minerals it contains. It's so ingrained in our species that distilled water tastes bad. Companies that sell water for human consumption routinely add minerals back after the water is purified.

It's probably true that drinking only distilled water would result in a mineral imbalance if the person did not compensate by increasing mineral consumption elsewhere. However, not putting minerals in is not the same as leeching minerals out.

But chameleons are meant to drink pure H2O.

The argument that rain water is full of elements is based on rain water in cities where there is a lot of atmospheric pollution. That is not the rain water chameleons were drinking while they evolved, it really isn't the rain water they drink now, though it is probably more polluted than it should be.

Pour tap water on concrete and it will eventually break down. Water is the universal solvent.
