just a rant...i'm so tired of the die offs, escapes and the smell. i bought 1k crickets a couple of weeks ago and within a week, more than half died in about week.

tired of throwing money away so i'm done buying crickets. those stinkin' crickets.

so what are you planning on useing for a staple, also you may want to look at how you are keeping your crickets i can keep 1000 around for at least a month

How are you housing them?
what are you feeding them?
How old were they when you bought them?
and who did you buy them from?

I can keep 2000 crickets and only have a few die from old age.

If you can post a pic of the enclosure you keep your crix in. I'm sure we can help you keep your bugs alive longer if you give us a chance.

i have a dubia colony already so i'm just going to feed them those for their staple. i give them supers, butters and hornworms for treats so they still variety.

it's weird b/c during the summer i was able to raise the crix to adults and a 1000 crickets lasted me at least month.

i haven't changed anything with their food or housing from the summer so i thought maybe it was the colder weather. so i heated their container and they're still dying off.

I am having this problem too. I usually bought less than 50 crix and keep them in a plastic crickets keeper. I have to get rid of 1-5 dead crix every day.

i'm feeding cricket crack, bug burger and some vegetables. i bought them at 1/2 inch from a few online places. i don't think it's anything w/ the suppliers and i know it's gotta do something w/ me. i'm just tired of these boogers! :)

what do you keep them in?
aDo you have egg cartons in there with them?

i keep them in a big sterilite bin. it has egg cartons in it.

Very weird.
Cuz i use a big tub, like that people keep xmas decoration in.
the lid has a big hole cut out, and is covered in mesh.
i put alot of egg cartons in, and none of mine die off.

I feel your pain!:( Start to hate them too!! The hassle of keeping them alive, clean and well fed is getting me! But I love my chameleon so I'm keeping saying to myself is for his well being, so.. Thank God the pet shop is close enough to where I live so I prefer to get crickets more often and keep a small quantity, which is way easier to manage!

i know! it's so frustrating b/c i haven't had this issue before. i spent almost $100 on crickets in a month so i'm just done w/ them for now.

Maybe you have a disease in the tub and you need to sterelize it.
Just a thought.
I wont do dubia roaches.
I cant get past intentionally brining roaches in my home.
I also live in an apt, and after already finding 4 roaches roaming in random places. the bathroom, the cham room, under my chest freezer, and crawling up my lving room wall i cant do it.
ANd im a neat freak, ocd about keeping things clean and nice.

the good thing is that i have a dubia colony. it's way easier so i'm just going to use them for my chams. in the summer, i'll try the crickets again...maybe ;););)

Well good luck with the dubias.

i only feed crickets as a staple. and i cant buy dubias anywhere but online.

yeah, i thought about that too. when the last crix die, i'm going to clean it. lol, i feel you on the roaches. at first, i was sooooo disgusted. my wife was giving me the weirdest looks, like..."who and what did i marry". i got used to it but i def don't feel as comfortable w/ the dubias like i do w/ the crix.

thanks! i bought my dubias online. i bought my first group from johnnyd on this forum and i found a couple of other sellers on fauna. you should try them out, it really is a lot easier than crix and the nymphs literally look like rollie pollies. i know you played w/ them when you were younger!!!
