Hellow, fist off in please to ahve found this forum. This is my first post too. I will do my best to supply all relavent information.

I own a 4-5 month old Male Veiled Chamelion ( Meelo ). He apears healthy and is eating well. I have seen him dinking may times. I have noticed he is not relay showing any colors other than lime green, brown, some white and poka dots ( black ). I was wondering if the fact that I have Milar around him on three sides may be afecting him.

I grow Bonsai and vegtables in my basement ( live near chicago). SO I have lots of greens, I am lighting with a 1000watt full spectrum HID light. Under the light a hight temprature of 93 degrees is reached and teprature ranged fom 93 to as low as 68 on nights. (73 degrees a low on days) I use a timer and the light is on for 12-13 hrs. Mello has three vines difrent sizes and has two altitudes to roam. over all he has a teritort of seven square feet.

The milar ( reflective film) dose move a little with the fan that is on for 10 hours. should i substitute wiht white film, thats not reflective but will geive me better usage of light? I have had Meelo for a month now. he is very active.

Food: thanks to an animal expo held three blocka away twice a week, I feed him a viraiaty of wax worms, horn worms, a couple meal worms, crickets and phenex worms. I dust the crickets with a chamelion duster, I forgiot the name every other time. I feed him about 12 -8 crickets every day and couple worms a day as a treat. I do gut load the crickets.

Meelos poop seams healthy form what ive read on this forum. Meelo some times likes to be held and other times dosent. Meelo has not hissed at me, but dose hiss at my guirl friend, she took it to hart.lol oh, this is my first Veiled chamelion, thought i have resurched them scince i have been a kid, in 32 now. I felt chamelions were to edvanced till now.

please offer me edvice.

Im so happy to have found this forum.

I , personally , would replace the mirror mylar with white poly. It would be insurance against stress. Also it may prevent eye damage from reflections direct to the eye. Your cham would surely avoid direct overhead light as though it were the sun at high noon, but light reflected from the sides may be hazardous.

Good luck...

not sure I understand the question... Is he eating the mylar? (probably not)

or are you asking because your basement/his territory is covered in mylar wall to wall and you're wondering if it's bad for him at all? If so, the fact that it is reflective might be comparable to the stress associated with mirrors or glass enclosures... but this might only be true if his 'territory' is against a wall or corner.

but like I said I don't think I properly understood the question so we'll see what others say

edit: yeah he's right I wasn't taking into account the 1000w HID reflecting all over the room, do you have any pictures of this setup? sounds interesting ^_^

ok, I will replace the milar. Meelo dosent seam to have any other problem other than , ( and im wondering it if it is a problem) lack of other colors in his pigment. Again this is my first chamelion and I did get him at an animal expo ( reptile show kinda ). I only payed $35 for him. I will up load pictures soon one of Meelo and two of the Meelos terratory. Meelo is not closed in by any thing other than the walls. He remains in his terratory and has only explored once i removed his favirate plant to clean it. But as soona s he saw it was back he returned to his area. I plann on building him a cage for the summer and leave him out side. That untill tempratures dip in the 60's.

LOL, no Meelo is not eating the Milar. I knew they dont like there refletions, thats why i was asking. Meelo's territory has lots of plants for him to wonder, i have yet to see him infront of the mylar looing at him self. usualy he is basking or hunting.

He is about 51/2" long head to tail. Is this normal size? for a 4-5 month old veiled?

welcome.

i think that green, brown, and white are normal colors for a 4-5 month old.
mine didnt really show really intense colors untill about 7 months.
its a slow process at first, but before you know it he will be really colorful.
it usually takes them a little over a year to get their full colors too, so you just have to wait it out.

i would like to see some pictures of the setup you have aswell.

also where near chicago are you located, i would like to know this expo your taking about?

well for some resaon i could not upload my pics. huh?

well the animal expo is at the dupage fair grounds. Its helf ever two weeks. Just had it last weekend. i will have to figure the picture thing.

ok if you can, give me times and the days it is held.

and upload the pics in photo bucket, and copy they img line and paste it in here. it should work then.
