ok so my baby female who is getting big really fast was on the bottom of the cage just now, I went to feed her, and saw she has blue spots all over herself, and the bright pretty green is a mellow shade of aqua/tan ( hard to describe but very pretty in a watercolor sort of way)...I cant get a pic as she has climbed to the top of the cage to hide from me, she was quite disturbed that I interrupted whatever is was she was doing...any clue as to what is going on?? I mean this is very strange behavior for her, and very strange colors, I've never seen either on her before? I thought she was too young to lay eggs, but, is she?? any help is appreciated...

this is what she looks like right now...

I wasn't sure of the age when I got her, she was very tiny then, and I have had her for I'm guestimating 3 months?

I don't much about females......I only have one male but some of the other members should be about to help you out. She's really cute! Jann

Well i don't have an answer as to what your chameleons colors mean but i do know one thing, you're husband needs to cut his fingernails.

I understand, (I'm a nursing student, and I know all about hands and nails and the need for cleanliness) however his 1 pinky nail was 1/2 way torn off and he needed to let it grow out so the rest didn't rip off...(he should have it bandaged) hard to explain, and pretty gross, too...sorry bout the pic...anyway, the rest are clean and short...I assure you;)

Pretty robins egg blue spots on a female veiled cham are receptive colors. If she was 3-4 months when you got her, and have had her 3 months, then she is 6-7 months old. She may have been trying out some receptive coloration. Also, when they reach this age, their hormones are changing, and they seem to "try on" various colors and patterns for awhile. Some go through an "ugly" stage of dreary colors.

You said that she was on the bottom of the cage...

Gesang is correct that the robins egg blue is receptive colors... But at the same time if you see Orange spots as well, along with a dark backround she may be gravid with a clutch eggs (infertile?) My veiled girl when Gravid retains these Blue spots... and if unbothered only those spots will show. When she sees a male these spots stay also, but become accompanied by the orange/ yellow spot and black background. The reason I bring this up is becasue this may be the explanation she is at the bottom of the cage.

Edit... I thought this thread was going to be about "Eek The Cat" ... I miss that show...Am I the only one that remembers that cartoon cat!?! LOL Sorry

thanks..its hard to tell with her, she's shifted colors several times now and seems really stressed since I tried to feed her..The only other weird thing I've noticed is that her belly seems to be a bit enlarged lately, where I did not notice it before. She cannot see my other males, and is still currently atop the cage watching my every move now..When I leave her alone for a bit she gets all those weird colors, and when I move anywhere near the cage her colors fade out quickly...I'm going to leave her be this evening and see how she does...it just is so strange that this started out of nowhere and so suddenly...

Just to make sure, do you have a laying bin in her cage, just in case? Always a good thing to do with any female. Once mine reach 3-4 mos i put one in to make sure i don't miss the clues of her wanting to lay a clutch. One being , roaming around on the bottom of the cage. Has she stopped eating at all? Another clue she might be ready.

actually, yes, I have digging material for her, just in case, and your right, since yesterday she hasn't eaten anything..she is doing a whole lot of cage roaming right now...and keeping an eye on me as well..

LoL just giving you a hard time;)

no problem!!! I have the same pet peeve myself, especially after taking micro and learning what "lives" under nail polish, nails, and the like:eek: :D

ambient temps are around 78/80, and she normally eats 7 or so crickets a day with the occasional worm 1-2 times a week...since I left her alone last night I peeked in on her, she was sleeping happily on a leaf and back to her usual pretty green...although as soon as I opened the cage she woke up and I snapped a quick pic...
