Eye problem

ok well this is a stupid question but how do yall shower your chams ? i have never attempted this treatment.

I know some people like to turn on the shower. I like to just place a plant in the tub, and turn on the water....to make the bathroom humid. Then I just turn it off and place them on the plant. I then mist with a hand sprayer.

More suggestions.......

You can put your cham in the shower or I use a deep sink. You just want the spray to be gentle and warm. You can buy saline solution at the grocery store to help lubricate the eye and wash it out. A syringe or dropper can be used to flush the eye. Just don't touch the eye itself because you might scratch it. You can buy Terramycin (spelling?) for about $12 online. It's a handy thing to have on hand. It can be used to sooth dry/irratated skin on the eye turret too. Be on the look out for signs of a respiratory problem. Eye issues that progress often then lead into sinus/respiratory issues. Also, make sure he is extra hydrated. More than he was before. This helps with eye issues. Good luck :)

You can put him in a small sized screen enclosure with plants and vines and put him directly under the shower head (I can do this because my shower head pours water like rain, it does not shoot it out strong at all, and if you think about it in the wild they had no shelter from rain except for leaves which rain still hits them) and he will wash out his eyes. This happened to my cham when he was about 6 months and his eye was irritating him and I put him in the shower for about 20 mins. and it was great. Hope you work it out.

I dont think Terramycin is supposed to get in the eye,if you can get it in that is. In the meantime like people have said give him a shower etc...I havent used the saline solution, but i would imagine that it would work if you dont have any other eye drops.

i did the shower thing this morning, he was no too impressed, but on a good note he started to open his eye more. hit other eye is really in great shape and has great color. i dont think he is sick at all i just think he has that little bit of junk in his right eye. he does open it but and look around, and when he does his eye has good color. he has never had any health issues at all and never had parasites. this all happened over a day. one day it was open and fine, the next i saw it closed and when he opened it i noticed that little goo thing. i am going to get him to a vet as soon as i can but for now can i put (human) eye drops in his eye th help with the irritation ?

Eye problems can be the first sign that your cham is coming down with a problem.....sometimes a very serious problem. I would shower him at least once a day until you can get him to the vet. Jann

Eye Issue...........

I agree with continuing to shower your cham. Don't put anything other than saline solution in your cham's eye as far as human products go. Things like Visine are made for humans. Ingredients in products for humans can be harmful to other animals like dogs, cats and chams. Vets have products made for animal eyes. Human saline solution is safe for reptiles though. Use it to flush the eye with a dropper or syringe. Continue to do extra hydration too. This does help with eye problems. But, I have to tell you.........if the eye continues to make goo and does not show signs of definite improvement every day, you need to get to the vet. Eye issues can go downhill very fast and are often a sign that something else is wrong. Keep us posted.

HI. I had a similar problem with george but when i called the shop i bought him from it was just an eye cap and was really simple to remove. just sprayed him with lots of water, and rubbed very gently mith my thumb. Dont know if this is any help what so ever. Hope he gets better soon. Good luck.

well i bought some terramycin today at my local tractor supply. im gonna give that a shot for a couple of weeks along with a shower a day and see if that helps. hope i do his right ! !

eye update. i have bought terramycin and have used it now since yesterday. after the first dose he actually opened and kept his eye open pretty much the rest of the day. i showered him again today and gave him another dose and he dosent lioke it but i think it will help him.

you can use a wood shower rack so you dont have to put the plant in the shower this ordeal has done nothing to diminish his looks hes a handsome devil
