Seems chameleons are popular in novelty quilting fabrics this year; I have no idea why this year over any other. Passing this along to the Missus (quilter); she makes masks for the family. ;)

I was just telling my mother yesterday... I don't think anyone ever thought a face masked would be an accessory much less a required item to wear in public.
In some places in china people do because of bad air quality... if the air got bad in like 20 years (which it probably will?) then people would. I sometimes think about this. I did not think we'd have to do it this early tho

Yeah I never thought this would be a new reality though. You watch movies about stuff like this and it is just a movie. Real life is much different especially when you have children. Plus I am in California and the politicians have lost their minds here. Everything is upside down and barely functioning.

In China, it's been that way since at least 2003 with the outbreak & spread of SARS.
In Japan, it goes back much farther—to the Meiji Era (1868-1912).

The history behind Japan’s love of face masks

In other parts of the world, it varies.

face masks in other parts of the world

I expect we're only at the beginning. Global epidemics & pandemics are becoming more frequent, and more serious. Like wearing seatbelts, helmets, not smoking indoors, blood tests before marriage, medical prescriptions, and other public health & safety measures, wearing masks in public may become the norm, especially if it keeps us alive & healthy.

Attitudes take time to change—some a few years, some a generation, and some longer.

ehhhh Everyone in our county is required to wear masks and still our daily numbers of Covid increase. So while I will gladly wear one I am still hesitant on how much good it is actually doing.

Honestly I do not want this to be the new normal. Where you can not go out to dinner. Where children are required to learn from home. Where businesses are shut down. For me this is not something that adds to quality of life.

And being as how these things keep coming out of China... Well no wonder they all wear masks. Even then the numbers of deaths there that they actually reported due to Covid and the fact that others came out saying that they were falsifying the information they were giving publicly. Makes me believe less in the effectiveness of Masks.

The worst part is the social diatancing, which includes the kids learning from home...
My daughter is an only child so she NO form of social interaction besides her lame parents and her online friends.
I hate it so much. I feel guilty. Usually chilfren play and hang out during the summer.

Same here. Alora is an only child. She had finally made a few friends here last year and then Covid happened. She has not been able to see anyone since everything shut down. She also does not learn as well with their online format. She struggled when they switched to this and every day she was either frustrated or crying. She is quite the over achiever and ended the year with her 4.0 intact but the amount of stress she put on herself trying to maintain it with distance learning and barely any instruction was ridiculous. With her being in High School it is so hard because I am really of no use to her. Which makes me feel like crap. It sucks all around for children right now.

Covid is a joke. Have had family with positive covid tests that are high risk(obese, smokers, drinkers, diabetic).... got over it in 2 days! I don't lie to get my point across, so believe me or not idc. But something is going on. The same people that are pushing for shut down businesses, inflating the dangers of this virus, etc are the ones pushing for protests and looting. And I am not someone with a history of far right ideology. To me, there is too much BS going on to not see this an agenda of some sort, idc what your politics are.

I'd be so pissed if my kids were in school right now.

Edit, I mean supposed to be*

It is seriously harming her education. I so wish she was not in High School right now. She is taking multiple AP classes in the fall and I am soooooo worried that it will be a disaster with them doing distance learning. She was staying up until 9pm to try to get assignments done because they were not providing instruction, it was so crazy.

Such insanity. It's as if they're trying to harm our kid's futures. Think about the economy and the educational impact, both will hit our children hard. They close schools for this because apparently they're worried it'll pass on to the teachers who will pass it on to grandma(oh btw, My gram is 99, 100 next month, she was in close proximity on several occasions to people who tested positive in my family... she's been fine though!). Now, why don't they shut down schools for the flu? You know the thing that does actually kill children every year? Teachers are allowed to stroll right in with the flu and keep working if they please.

Sorry I'm not ranting at you, just can't help myself sometimes haha

My uncle died from covid within a few weeks. It affects people differently, but when it does effect you seriously, its REALLY serious. They also dont really know the long term effects. Most of my family is high risk (maybe me) due to autoimmune issues. I’d rather be cautious then sick.

I’m also a total introvert so I was born for this quarantine business.
