Face Mask

I guess agree to disagree. My gram was born in the depression and is german. She feels what's going on is like nazi Germany lol. Was class valedictorian and still walks herself through the hood everyday. Now I get that's not everyone, but that sums up how a lot of people here view it.

So how many healthy children have died from this?(serious question I haven't seen the numbers lately, I avoid the news as much as I can I think it's poison haha)
No idea about kids dying. Some have, but for the most part it’s adults. The kids don’t escape unharmed though. Some get some strange and serious health effects from the virus. May not kill but does make them sick.
How does your Gram feel about taking off her shoes at the airport? How do you feel about taking off your shoes and belt? How does your wife feel about having to consent to getting felt up if she wears an underwire bra or not being able to fly? I object to those things so I chose not to fly and it hurts or endangers no one.

My issue isn't with masks. I think it needs to stop once these people get their vaccines, but if it makes people happy I'll wear it.

Our problem is with the way things are going down in the economy, mass bans that don't seem to stay consistent(protests yes, small business no???), etc. Masks have conveniently been used by looters as well, hmmm strange coincedence. Oh and people that protect their property get raided, but looters get bailed out by celebrities and politicians.

Oh and my biological father hates it, I had to convince him not to punch the TSA the first time he flew over here :ROFLMAO: he has to get frisked for his leg going off with metal.

Very simple!! If everybody practiced good personal hygiene, eat healthy, sleep right, get good sleep, excercise!! Go outside get fresh air, half the people would not be sick.......alot to blame is F.D.A. (FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION)....WHATS IN OUR FOOD??? Chemicals our body is not designed for.....causes all kinds of mental and health problems!!!..........

Oh, well now you’re talking about another hot political topic. I’m sorry, but only one hot topic per thread. ;)
Regardless of our politics, religions, social beliefs and all else, we are united in our love of chameleons. That is all that we have to agree on...chameleons are awesome and we all want their worlds to be the best. When the world sucks and is falling apart, dividing or doing whatever the heck it does, we can all come here and get away from it all and focus on what’s really important...serving our chameleon masters.

Forgot to add...no masks required here. ?

No doubt. And it's also important to not let ourselves divide too much. We can disagree, but still be friends. The world forgets that sometimes.

You're on to a good point, why is there not more talk of healthy living, vitamins, exercise, etc? We're so worried about offending that we forget common sense

OK my last comment on this… At least until I finished embroidering my chameleon mask so I can show it off here…

My son’s school is really struggling with Covid outbreaks right now. That’s with zero students in school, and very limited staff over summer. Even still they have had some cases in their staff and transmission, and had to quarantine, contact trace, and close the school to clean it. Can you imagine contact tracing 1,000 kids? Or closing school everytime someone tests positive to do covid tests and cleaning?

It just doesnt seem feasible. I know a lot of people are struggling with this - they can’t work if schools are closed. Kids aren’t getting properly educated. It sucks all around... but I think the government (both federal and state) are largely to blame as they had no dr/continuity plan in place and they can’t get on the same page. We learned these same lessons with Hurricane Katrina and Sandy in terms of disaster response/recovery... and it wasn’t until after the devastation cleared that local, state, and federal governments, as well as businesses, took it more seriously.

We are like the world’s worst sports team right now :p . One kid is off in center field picking flowers, one kid is picking his nose, 3rd base is looking for his mom... the bad news bears.

Can I just say, 25% of my grade is leaving the school. 25! thats 1 in 4 kids gone. And we're only getting something like 5 new kids. My school is struggling and this is ridiculous. How are we supposed to do anything with 25% of the grade gone?! Also where i live my school is starting up normally. Zoom learning was crap. I can't believe i'm saying this but i'm glad school is starting up normally.

Our prob wasnt the zoom classes - it was that the teachers didnt HAVE zoom classes. Some refused to do any online lecture, and assigned a week worth of busy work, which is ridiculous. Again this is private school - so if I have to pay full tuition, I expect the teachers to spend the full school day engaged and teaching. Even if its half a class of lecture, and then cut them loose with busy work. My son really struggled with a few of his honors/ap classes without instruction. Like math - who the heck can understand complex math from reading a book?

Such insanity. It's as if they're trying to harm our kid's futures. Think about the economy and the educational impact, both will hit our children hard. They close schools for this because apparently they're worried it'll pass on to the teachers who will pass it on to grandma(oh btw, My gram is 99, 100 next month, she was in close proximity on several occasions to people who tested positive in my family... she's been fine though!). Now, why don't they shut down schools for the flu? You know the thing that does actually kill children every year? Teachers are allowed to stroll right in with the flu and keep working if they please.

Sorry I'm not ranting at you, just can't help myself sometimes haha
I am yes and no on the whole thing as you and I have talked about. I understand the health risks and I understand that certain people suffer far worse then others. That people are dying... With my mom being high risk it is something I do not ignore.

As a mom though. Watching my child struggle during some of the most important years of her life it causes me great stress. She is hell bent on getting a 4.0 throughout high school so that she can get into a great college ( she wants to be a surgeon). So with that comes quite a bit of stress on her. I do everything I can to tell her just to do her best that it does not have to be perfect... But the timing of this with her education when she is so focused on every single grade well the stress is impacting her quite a bit. To the point I put her in counseling to deal with it all. What does that say when your child has to have counseling because life as she new it was flipped upside down? It is sad to me. Very sad. These kids will suffer...

In Cali its not even about health... It is a total political show with Newsom and Pelosi. All about trying to get Trump out. While the state falls a part. People lose jobs, homes, and their sanity. It is sad very very sad.

My uncle died from covid within a few weeks. It affects people differently, but when it does effect you seriously, its REALLY serious. They also dont really know the long term effects. Most of my family is high risk (maybe me) due to autoimmune issues. I’d rather be cautious then sick.

I’m also a total introvert so I was born for this quarantine business.
So very sorry for your loss Natalie.

There are no easy solutions to this whole thing. Not even sure if there are complex solutions. We’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. All we can do is continue to care about and take care of each other and try not to lose sight of what matters to each of us.

ehhhh Everyone in our county is required to wear masks and still our daily numbers of Covid increase. So while I will gladly wear one I am still hesitant on how much good it is actually doing.

Still Confused About Masks? Here’s the Science Behind How Face Masks Prevent Coronavirus

Honestly I do not want this to be the new normal. Where you can not go out to dinner. Where children are required to learn from home. Where businesses are shut down. For me this is not something that adds to quality of life.
I don't believe anyone WANTS this to be a new normal. As to Quality of Life... [shrug ?] you're right—we can only opine for ourselves. I prefer to think of it like... (OTTOMH) orthodontic braces—some discomfort & inconvenience now for a better overall quality of life later. And IMO, that's what it is—an inconvenience (acknowledging that everyone feels different about this).

I think what it does do—a combination of the science and my own personal opinion based on the science—is increase the odds of surviving until vaccines, better treatments, and (hopefully) a cure can be found. That said, I believe the situation to be temporary, and that there will be light at the end of this very long tunnel, but I also believe that in order for this to happen, we must stay the course.

Our culture is different than those I cited previously that more readily accept masks, so I don't think this is going to be a new "forever" norm for the rest of the world—but I'll qualify that with the possibility and frequency of other unforeseen pandemics that could occur in the future.
We have no way of knowing or predicting. ? happens.

And being as how these things keep coming out of China...
This does concern me, especially the existence and laissez-faire regulation of "wet markets".
Unfortunately, like most issues today, this one is also fraught with complications.
