Free Range Floor Covering

I would love to have a free range set up and am jealous of those of you that do. However, my wife is from and farm and already wants to know why I don't keep my Chams in a barn. I would need to keep "things" from falling on the floor (or shelf or whatever) to keep a happy house. A plastic floor covering would look hideous though it would certainly work. How do you solve that problem with yours?

I free range and don't really have a problem with things falling on the floor. My guys poop in the same place so I put down a news paper to catch the poop and change the paper after each poop. I cup feed or had feed so have very few feeder escape. If you plant to mist in the free range you will need something to catch the water of course. Could you tell us what kind of things you think will be falling on the floor.

i have a pc of outdoor carpet that sits under my one freerange area, its a nicer type than the regular astro turf, home depot has lots of diff, styles and colors.

their is a plastic called panda plastic.its a very thick plastic used for coverings like u want.they use it for greenhouses.check out greencoast has them

Thanks. yes, its the poop I was/am worried about.

I make my free ranges out of wire racks..... and I have coroplast below the bottom rack that all the plants sit on. the coroplast is angled and i've installed sides to catch the water. the coroplast is also tilted so the water runs to one side and into a reservoir that has float switchs and a pump. When the reservoir is full, the pump turns on and pumps the water to another resevoir that is in the other room near my other chameleons. The other reservoir is bigger and has a larger pump that can keep up with another pump feeding it. the larger reservoir and pump also have electric float switches which operate the pump and pump the water into a drain connection I made. I never have to drain waste water manually. This is especially useful if my misting system somehow managed to mess up and run all day. That has never happened though.

I have the same thing turds in the same place so i can lay down somthing to catch it...for excess water i did find some cheap self adhesive tiles (you can stick them down to the carpet, or packing tape them together and lay it down as one sheet)..it seems to work well for me, and its an easy clean up...

sorry for the bad pics my camera is dead i used the phone..p.s. the tiles are like 28 bucks for ALOT of them in a pack ..i think i used a half pack to make a pretty large area(it was left over from a construction job)

Thanks, those pics are awesome and thats the exact kind of solution I am looking for. I have carpet all over and I just didn't see how I could do this. That looks great!

You could create a melamine base with short walls to prevent wandering. A false base could hide anything you do not want in view.

I just use my bathroom. The tub is great for drainage.
