What is the actual distance though from the bottom of the fixture to the branch?
The fact that he is still sitting there gaping is a major sign that something is wrong though. Are you hearing any wheezing sounds or popping sounds from him?

Around 12 inches. Don't hear anything
12 inches might be ok for temps. Turn off the heat for now. See if he stops gaping.

Seems like he did. Kinda weird cause he never gapes and it's probably cooler today .
I dunno something is triggering him though. Heat or something else is going on.

There's literally always something wrong with him. He's always being weird but he's still alive somehow. I can't ever tell if it's serious or not.

If temps are correct maxing out at 85 where he sits not at the branch. It will be hotter where he rises off the branch. If you turn off the heat fixture again and he stops then it is a temp issue. If he keeps it up then it is a vet trip to check for a respiratory infection.

Heat lamp has been off for like 20 minutes. Still gaping. Seems to open mouth wider at times.

I think at this point it would be important to get him into a reptile vet. If he has a respiratory infection he would need antibiotics to clear it. In the video you can see when he gapes larger he is also taking in a deeper breath of air. So yeah this would be a vet trip.

I don't know but you are saying your temps are within limits... So I am just going off of what you are saying. If they are running under 80-85 then he should not be gaping unless he has something else wrong like an RI.

Ok thanks. I'm gonna make sure they are still good higher up and if I see him gape again I'll take him. Kinda still hoping it's just temps.
Me too and it could the device your testing with is not producing accurate number.
