What the heck are you feeding your hoppers?! Geez Louise! If you don't have like a million babies I'll be amazed.Female Grasshopper asking to mate.View attachment 351600
Citrus leaves, uvb, and lots of heat. I went to the local Home Depot and asked if i could have fallen leaves from the lemon trees. Clearly it's an aphrodisiac! I'm seeing female curled tails. They are kicking and pushing the males around. Typically, there is very little movement as adults. I could leave the door open and they don't move. At this moment they are very active = mating. There's such a behavioral change. What the heck are you feeding your hoppers?! Geez Louise! If you don't have like a million babies I'll be amazed.
So the fresh citrus leaves really get them frisky? I wonder if dried leaves would do the same.Citrus leaves, uvb, and lots of heat. Based on their behavior , yes! Tomorrow, I'm gonna rearrange the Gray Bird's cage. I'm adding foil insulation to bring the heat up to 90 degrees and I'm gonna feed rose leaves to encourage breeding. So the fresh citrus leaves really get them frisky?
Spotted Birds and Gray Birds. What species of hoppers are they?
You've got yourself a royal gang bang there, lol. Om happy for you all, loll. I received the food from you, thank you so much. You'reProbably! The Gray Birds are more particular to wilted/dry food. The Spotted Birds seem to prefer fresh food.So the fresh citrus leaves really get them frisky? I wonder if dried leaves would do the same.
Peels=Great idea! a tree/bush in the cage is excellent.I’m testing out citrus rinds/peels because they should have the same chemical compounds as the leaves. My hoppers are already eating the pith off the rinds.
If this doesn’t spur on mating, I can buy a small organic lemon tree shrub with about 50 leaves on it for $25.00 and free next day delivery. I’ll just stick the whole bush in their enclosure!
Will they eat the fruit too? They really love these rinds! I’ll report back any ill and/or positive response
I don’t know but I’m wondering if that much sugar is good for them. I am nervous trying new things with 75 breeding adults. That would be one heck of a loss. But I’m using the mentality kind of like how we don’t feed sweet fruits to crickets but peels might be OK.Will they eat the fruit too?
I’ve put the oranges in my enclosures before and they didn’t seem to touch them so I’m guessing Andrew is right, maybe it had too much sugar?I don’t know but I’m wondering if that much sugar is good for them.
