gut loading superworms?

Carol did on the first page.

EDIT: Also going to re-state that after reading those links, I wouldn't recommend bug burger if you don't like the whole carrageenan causes cancer thing.

The trick to gut-loading a superworm is to show it a good time first... If you go right in and just throw some green cubes at it, it's going to think you're an ass and it's not going to cooperate with anything... You've gotta tell it something nice, compliment its dress, and take it out somewhere classy for drinks... Keep the conversation light and humorous (ie. "See those dubias over there? They got nothin' on you, babe." "Omg, what is she wearing over there? You can take the worm out of Petsmart, but you can't take the Petsmart out of the worm."). After the superworm has had a few rounds, it'll start to loosen up and get the munchies (unless you give it whiskey, then it'll either turn mean or emotional, and either way it's not good). Give it a few more compliments and have it order one last round, followed by a shot... It'll completely forget what its original plans were and it'll be happy to eat anywhere from Taco Bell to Wafflehouse...
Problem solved! Works like a swiss effin' watch.

And that's not even the best part!
The best part is watching it take the crawl of shame the next day in the chameleon cage as it's thinking "where am I and how did I get here?"

if they are the Nature Zone Cricket bites..this is what's in 'em.

Carrageenan, whey protein, soy protein, maltodextrin, fructose, lecithin, locust bean gum, calcium lactate, spirulina, potassium sorbate, citric acid, ascorbic acid, methylparaben, FD&C Yellow 5, FD&C Blue 1.

i wouldn't use them..

Carrageenan - not beneficial, quite probably harmful
Whey protein - not beneficial
Soy - not beneficial, potentially harmful (high in oxalates and phytates, both of which will bind to calcium and can thus prevent its absorption)
maltodextrin - processed additive, unhelpful starch
fructose - adding sugars unnecessary / not helpful nutirent wise
potassium sorbate - mold inhibitor, no benefit
methylparaben - preservative , no nutritional value
colour dyes = bad

basically, only the spirulina is particularily useful (far better just to buy that specifically and separately)

Thanks, Dan..and Sandra couldn't find that information to provide her with. It sounds like there are no gutloads that are nutritionally beneficial to chams that are available for purchase. If there are let me know, although I may start making my own and freezing it because then I will be able to tell exactly what's going into my bugs/cham.

It's the net. Things get tossed around meaning to sound one way, but then others read it a while different way.

I'm not sure it was total disregard, so much as just a short, simple answer. Most people don't think about if the answer was enough for everyone to be satisfied and just write something quickly, keeping it short and to the point. Yes, it could have been answered better for you all, but I don't think it's something to get that worked up about. I'm sure the worked up response will keep him from answering like that anymore.

Edit: he's been here long enough to know how it all works.

Well said.

EDIT: Also going to re-state that after reading those links, I wouldn't recommend bug burger if you don't like the whole carrageenan causes cancer thing.

Here is the list of ingredients in Bug Burger :
Alfalfa Meal, Flax Meal, Corn Meal, Potato Granules, Brewers Dried Yeast, Pea Protein Isolate, Dried Kelp, Calcium Carbonate, Carrageenan, Konjac, Carob Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Dried Krill, RoseHips, Cinnamon, Calendula Flower, Marigold Flower Extract, Phaffia Rhodozyma Yeast, Paprika Extract, Spirulina Algae, Turmeric, Salt, Potassium Citrate, Magnesium Gluconate, Canthaxanthin, Malic Acid, Calcium Propionate, Methylparaben, and Potassium Sorbate (as mold inhibitors), Lecithin, Rosemary Extract and Mixed Tocopherols (as preservatives), Vitamins (Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D Supplement, Choline Chloride, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Beta Carotene, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B-12 Supplement).

Pretty good list of stuff. We would probably all be healthier if we had a diet like this:eek:
Yes, it has Carrageenan in it but if you want something in Gel form its really hard to get away from it. I use Bug Burger as something nutritious to give to my bugs when I run out of my own home made gutloads or if I am out of time etc.

And Honestly there is more research that proves that animal protein eaten by humans causes cancer than Carrageenan but that doesn't stop most humans from eating 20-30% of there diet in animal protein.

If you look further you will see that there are two forms of Carrageenan, degraded (not used in food) and undegraded form used in food. All the studies that showed any link to cancer were the degraded form. Now, there is some concern that processing undegraded Carrageenan in the preparing of food could cause it to become degraded, that has not been proven. However, there are hundreds of studies showing its antiviral effects.

It's in all sorts of food in the western diet, you probably all had some today:eek:;)

Also when was the last time you heard of a chameleon dying of gastrointestinal cancer? Truth is Chameleons don't live long enough for many cancers to have much of an effect.

Agar agar works very well to gel things. According to the link posted previously, both types show concern regarding intestinal issues. Regardless, like I said, I don't recommend it if you don't like the whole carrageenan causes cancer thing.

The gutload I personally make contains most of the things that are nutritionally important in bug burger, dino fuel, and cricket crack. By simply adding a small amount of agar agar, it gels very nicely. Adding gums like bug burger makes it do so even more.

I indeed have not had any today. I read the ingredients to everything I eat and I only eat healthy foods for the most part. I also don't eat meat. Not that it particularly matters.

Super Chow & Dino fuel are exceptional gut loads for Supers..;)

Thanks..

Please keep giving replies & suggestions for those of us (me!) that are still learning and willing to take advice.
You are a world of information on how to better take care of my Mozart, and the info gets in... Maybe Mr. I-Want-Validation will make different decisions when he shops for gutload again.
