He is dying.

I didn't know I was getting him, I got him for my birthday 2 weeks ago, and my dad got everything for him wihtout telling me, and he got all the wrong things, and my parents don't have the money to buy better things for him, so I have been taking care of him the best I could, and I was planning on finding a better home for him, but now he is dying. I did the best I could

This is why for the love of God people need to stop buying animals they know nothing about. But from what it sounds like it was more of a rescue. Regardless more research should have been done. This is more of a widespread lack of knowledge thing honestly, people dont see reptiles as actual pets, like cats and dogs, but more like a piece of replaceable furniture that doesnt deserve the same care and attention... I really wish we could bring more attention to this, instead of dooming reptiles to die because of poor husbandry. Learn from this so you dont make the same mistake in the future and you can help others not make it as well. Good luck with getting him back to health...

Sorry. I was hoping someone could give me some advice, and I did get an article about how to properly give him water, but he is not taking interest in food either.

Shower. Find a plant, put him on it in the shower. Turn the showers heat to room temp and point the sprayer at the wall and let it bounce on him. Do this for 35-45 minutes.

This was a gift from dad , she is young . At the mercy of what her parents will supply . I’m not arguing at all with you . What you said is so so very true . Op did an amazing job with what she was given . She also fight pretty hard to convince dad to allow maverick to go to a rescue . She has learned much , one day when she has funds will be an amazing keeper .

I completely understand. This is how a lot of the biggest advocates are born. Learning from really bad experiences to make sure that they can stop it from happening to others. Hopefully her parents learned a little as well

Yeah this was not what your speaking of and I hope the 13 year old girl that is the OP does not feel bad as this was in any way her fault. At the mercy of her parents and trying to help the chameleon that was her birthday present.

Agreed she already is amazing I hope she stays after maverick leaves her . I hope this does not deter her later when she solely can provide for a chameleon. She is so smart she is only 13 . She could teach her parents much about keeping .

No it was not what I do wish is that parents would join with their kiddos . Learn as much as possible and work together . That’s my wish !.

I want to let everyone know that Maverick has gotten progressively worse, but he di eat his crickets this morning, but he hasn' been climbing all day, and he fell asleep curled up in a ball last night. My mom just left to take him to a reptile rescue where she is going to meet the guy halfwayand I am going to get updates about how he is doing, and now hopefully he can have a better life, and I am so sad, but I know that I am giving him a chance at a abetter life that he wouldn't have had with his old owner. And I put pillows all around him so he wouldn't fall everywhere. Edit: I am going to post a multiple part video of Maverick being sassy in his memory soon. I am just putting it togetghernow.

Love you did such a good job with what you were given . You made such a wise , mature decision . So proud of you . I know this was hard but you learned much. One day when you can provide solely for a chameleon I sure hope you will . Your an amazing keeper and have much wisdom for your age . Will you please here and there let us know how maverick is ?

Great job sweetheart! Maybe when you are older this is a hobby that you will come back to and enjoy. Just think of all you can learn in the next 5 years to be an outstanding Cham mom!

I am trying to upload his video of him being sassy, and it is 1 minute and 8 seconds, and it says that something went wrong when I tried to upload it onto here. Does anyone know how to correctly upload a video?

I just want to say how amazingly selfless and resourceful you are. Please take these gifts of yours and use them! You advocated for this creature, and you can do the same. Today you gave a creature to a rescue, but someday soon you may be the rescue that another youngster needs, or the expert that helps them learn to be a caretaker. You saved a life, you learned and put another's needs before your own, and you are smart.
Take this experience as a tiny peek at the power you have for change. Bring it full circle! Hit the books, make posters, start a volunteer group. You can do amazing things.

here is the link to him being sassy, and my mom just called me and said that the guy from the rescue has been doing exotic animals for 30 years and he said he looks like he has an upper respiratory infection and he is going to put him on antibiotics, but is almost sure that he will make a full recovery. He is going to post before and after pictures on his fb page and I will link it once I get the name of it. He is going to keep his name Maverick, and I am so grateful that he's going to a great rescue.
Edit: I just watched a yt video where this dude referred chameleons to fiery tree dragons and it couldn't be more true, especially about Maverick
