Help ID fecal float photos

Is it possible that they are all bacterium? Both the samples I found these in were older samples. The one new sample I had I found nothing but bug parts.

Bacteria can only be seen under 1000x mag and oil immersion. Those are way too big (like take over the world single handedly big!) for bacteria and don't look right for bacteria due to the shell around them. They don't look like coccidia or tapeworm eggs. I'm going with nematode eggs.

my first thought was Coccidia

here is a pic of coccidia taken with the same type of microscope taken on the scope setting 40x on the lower lens (400x)

I know I have more pictures and videos stored on the microscope harddrive. I will see if I can get more examples later today.

Your best bet it to have your findings confirmed by a vet

That was my first thought too. NOT what I wanted to hear but it was my first thought:mad::mad::mad::mad: Thanks Dez

Hey Rob, I have the same microscope and book, I am also just starting to learn :) my first guess was coccidia also but I am not experienced, I am only going by the photo in the book. Dave Weldon has a lot of experience and told me he could easily identify my photos for me. Send them to Dave :) good luck

Thanks suzi I forgot about that and just sent him a PM.

I spent this weekend cleaning with 9% H2O2 and treating a couple chams. I am trying the 3 days on 7 days off protocol with them. I want clean chams but I also want alive chams ;) I will hold off on having you send me my little girl till I have an all clear on 6 fecals

cocodilla= round or sphere shapped bacteria(coccus) im learning about this in school atm. i also see some others that look rod(bacsillus i belive)

man looks like im late on this thread. lol

You too Clark?! I have a baby boy coming too. Just making sure whatever happened with my two sweet baby veils isn't going to affect anyone else. I've used 40% everywhere even places they never were exposed to!

Are you sure it's 40% and not 40 Volume?

Yes I'm sorry... 40 Volume!! As you know this past week has been a roller coaster and my mind and body is worn. :)

That's what I figured but wanted to make sure for the thread and future readers. 40 vol is 12% and 30 vol is 9% both kill coccidia well. It's just that 30 vol is all I could easily get in my area in liquid form and not gel form. You can also order food grade stuff which is 35% but it is pretty expensive and dangerous.

Your welcome Rob. Last year 2 of my chameleons ate wild caught flies and got nematodes. This was the info that Dave gave me

Once a day for three days then again in two weeks
Panacur is commonly dosed at 1cc/kg. So if your chameleon happens to weigh 100 grams then you would dose with 0.1cc of Panacur paste that has a 100mg/g (10%) strength right out of the tube. It is the same for 100 mg/g safeguard

I put it right on a hornworm and fed it to them I found it easy to administer that way.

As far cleaning goes I read to use to 40 volume clear peroxide on everything except the bio vines, those should be boiled in hot water. When I was dealing with the nematodes I put the vines in the bathtub and poured boiling water all over them.

Thanks Suzi

I have all the meds but the two I treated this weekend were treated with Flagyl and Ponazuril. I sprayed everything including the bio vines with a weed sprayer with 30 vol liquid peroxide. Then I washed everything with a bio soap and hot water. I will say that it all SUCKS...and to make matters worse no body would stay in their trees

Thank you Clark, I truly appreciate you correcting my mistake. Your correct it is very important for other forum members to not get confused when I mispoke. Thank you :)

I take everything apart and set in the shower. Then with rubber gloves and spray bottle I spray down with 40 volume clear peroxide (purchased at beauty supply shop). I let it set for apx 10 minutes. I then spray again to see if anything bubbles to make sure I didn't miss anything. Then I steam and spray with water until thoroughally rinsed.

I know the feeling

Here is some old videos I pulled off the microscope
(Also Celestron picture in the view is a little clearer on video mode..I don't know why) But hopefully the following videos will let you know what to look for.

Coccida at 400x

Heavy Coccida at 200x

Strongyles of some sort. at 400x
You can see the worm moving inside the egg

Same Stronglyes at 200x next to some air bubbles

Also here is a picture of what I believe is a pinworm egg at 400x

Thanks Dez, those videos are great! Now one more question:p...What about the soil in plants or terrarium substrate? Should those be fine? Should they be replaced/replanted?

The soil should be replaced :)
@Dez great videos!
@ Rob, I will hold onto your girl as long as you need me to! No worries

Thanks Dez and Suzi!!!

BTW I have a huge question and nothing turned up on searching.

Has anyone used Virkon S Everything I read about it is that it is wonderful. People say it has a faster kill time than 12% H2O2 and people are using it in koi ponds to kill viruses and parasites without killing the fish as well as using it in birds drinking water to deworm and deparasitize if that's a word.

I would like to know any and all info people have about this sanitizer??
