HELP! Sick Senegal Chameleon

You said..."Do you recommend there still be a sandy base in case the chameleon is gravid and needs to dig? "...what I do is put an opaque container about 10" long by 6" wide by 10" deep 2/3rds to 3/4's full of washed sandbox sand. This gives the chameleon a place to dig if she needs to lay eggs. She might have to be moved to a larger container when/if the time comes. By having a container in the cage, you don't have to worry as much about missing the sometimes subtle signs that she is ready to lay eggs.

hi i have been following this thread carefully as i was clueless about the senegal cham i was given with a lot of incorrect information! i currently have a temp of 70f and mod to high humidity on reading that the temp was too low i headed of to my pet shop who keep chams and was given a ceramic heat bulb. the temp shot up to 100f and i quickly turned it off as my cham was hiding at the bottom of the viv not like him at all. i now have the problem of my tank isnt warm enough or is too hot would a regulator sort this out or a lower wattage ceramic?
I could do with good care advice as there isnt that much on the net
thanks i know im babbling too much...

First of all chameleons warm up by sitting in the sunlight....they don't seem to recognize ceramic heaters as a place to get warm.

All you really need is a regular incandescent bulb of a wattage that puts the basking area within the right temperature range...high 70's to low 80'sF....in a metal hood. Don't place it so that the chameleon can get close enough to it that it can get burned. (I already talked about this and some care advice in this thread I think.)

thanks for your input the ceramic heater was to bring the temp up to the 80's so the herp lady told me! found it way too hot and got a bit scared maybe a higher wattage of bulb instead of the ceramic? im new to chams and have trawled this site for hours getting lots of info you guys are very informative and i really appreciate your help wish i could say the same about the person who sold me the cham in the first place! they seem happy nice green colours and basking they are a light brown shade should they be darker because the light isnt hot enough?
I know im babbing again.. i like to know everything there is to know!
