I don't know what's going on. She's not eating and one of her eyes won't open and the other has a slight bruise

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - she is a female veiled chameleon and I have had her for four days.
  • I handle her once a day for feeding because she won't eat
  • Feeding - I am feeding her six meal worms and crickets mixed with no gut load at the moment.
  • Supplements - for now I only have calcium without d3
  • Watering - are use a Mister mixed with reptisafe four times a day for 30 seconds because she was shedding yesterday.
  • Fecal Description - She has not been tested for parasites. Her poop looked normal, a little light bag looking thing on it.
  • History - Purchased at petco.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Zoo med 16x16x30 screen.
  • Lighting - Zoo med basking set
  • Temperature - basking temperature is up to 90°F and normal temperature is 82°F around the cage. And night temperature goes down to 70° sometimes 64° If really cold because I have a very warm bedroom
  • Humidity - I have yet to purchase a thermometer for humidity. It's been raining a lot lately so I left the window open
  • Plants- I have a pothos plant that I added the day before yesterday.
  • Placement - The cage is in my bedroom on top of a tall drawer. It is 15 feet from the window and away from the rest of the house. It is 10 feet away from the AC, which does not blow close to it because it is not very good.
  • I am in New York City

Current Problem- she refuses to eat unless I put the food in her mouth while she yawns and both her eyes are now swollen shut. Not extremely swollen but neither I is opening. Earlier when I was opening but now it is neither and she is just blindly walking. She has bruise like purple tint under her eyes and she is also not drinking water. I purchased her a really weak and thin already, I am really worried.

I'll help with a few husbandry things that I can.

First, what do you mean yawning? That sounds like she's puffing up mad because you're holding her. Also don't feed mealworms. You need some good gutload. Add some different feeders (hornworms butterworms silkworms bsfl are great). D3 twice a month, multi twice a month, plain d3 and phosphorus free calcium daily. You need to mist longer I'm not exactly sure where veiled are on misting, but around 5 min straight, 3x a day should be good.

As for the eye, it could be many things(infection, parasite, deficiency, etc). Don't mean to give you a hard time, but petco is a terrible place to get chameleons and a lot from there tend to struggle. Look into a good vet around that has experience with chameleons(very important)

Good luck with her sorry this is happening

I was looking at The video I took of her today that I got her and set up her habitat. She was already showing signs of bruising which I had not noticed before. Should I take her to the bed at Petco ? I mean, they did tell mom I could take her back to their veterinarian free of charge for the first 30 days, and also she did come like this so if something is wrong I would like them to take a look at her since they gave her to my parents like this. I'm very scared because This is my first time owning a reptile. I have a small variety of pets already and I take great care of them but with being a good pet owner comes a lot of responsibility and worry. This is the most worried I've ever been, as she is the weakest pet I've ever had. ( and I have many... chinchillas, hamsters, cat, parakeets, zebra finches, dogs, sugar gliders... etc)

She's not puffing up, she is sleeping and gently opening her mouth and making a sound as if she is trying to suck in air. I am crazy worried about this. I was told that I should force feed her crickets since he has not had any appetite at all. Aside from the food that I have given her myself, I've only see her eat one warm by herself.

She's sleeping during the day and opening her mouth? Sorry just trying to understand a little. I'm not familiar with petcos vets, but personally I would look into a more chameleon experienced vet.

I'm so far from one, the only pet stores in Manhattan are chains like petco and petsmart. She's sleeping most of the time. Even in my hands when I held her .

Also her nostrils look a little swollen and drippy. Yesterday they were full of white crust which I was told must be calcium

Sounds like a URI . She need a good vet .

The sounds she's making, bubbles, etc sound like uri as mentioned. If she's sleeping in your hands she's in bad shape. A good vet is a must, but I'm also worried that the stress from a vet visit could be too much.

What do I do? I read in another post to turn on the hot water in my bathroom and sit with her to have her inhale the humidity
