HELPPPPP ! My cham is biting his tail

I don’t know what to do anymore I have done everything the vet has told me to with the possible stick she’s on his tail. I think it’s finally been bothering him and now this morning I noticed him attacking his tail and now it’s bleededing and looks pretty bad. The soonest I couldn’t get him into the vet is tomorrow morning ... is there anything I can do in the mean time to help him stop attempting to bite it ... he won’t really let me get any where near him and I only 2 pictures

Man thats sucks, i would put some neosporin or polysporin on the wound. Until you get her to the vet.

You could try to make and put an e-collar on him. He couldn't go back in his regular cage with one on and you can't tie it on very tight. Don't know how that would work with a casque.

I have put some neosporin on it , but if he keeps biting at it you don’t think it would make him sick getting that in his mouth

Okay because I had added it once already this morning and I’m getting ready to feed again and see if I can get him out and add some more.

I've made them for small animals before including birds but it might be better to let the vet see him first. If your appointment is in the morning you might want to stick to the neosporin/triple ab. ointment and shut off his light for the night so he sleeps until then. Let the vet make one if they think you should use it at all.

They use their tail to balance, climb, hang, at least mine do, thats terrible....strange thing your cham is deciding to do... I would take him to the vet asap!!!

Just turn all the lights out early so he will go to sleep, no collar needed...

Update on what the vet said ... she said the best thing for my baby would be amputate the part of his tail that is all messed up and the part that it seemed to have spread too then it’s going to be sent off to be checked out for any fungal or bacteria just to make sure everything else is good. so i hope he will he fine if that happens and can adapt to missing part of his tail.

Did she offer any reasons why he was doing it? Amputation seem more like treating the symptom, not the cause...

If an infection has gotten into the nerve tissue and it seems like it has, then amputation is not a bad idea. I've seen dogs chew off their own tails because of an infection they got wagging their tails in kennels that were too short. (hunting dogs mostly) Amputation is the only thing that finally treated it after months of bandaging.
I know of at least one chameleon with an amputated tail that did just fine. You may have to give her extra branches and ladders if she looses much of her tail.

The cause was more than likely the stuck shed and I did everything I could to help him before get it off .. and it just eventually stopped the circulation in that one area then it probably started to irritate him and he started to bite at it causing to make it worse. She just told me the best thing to do is to amputate what part it has infected on his tail and then send it off to see if there is any type of fungal infection or bacterial infection to make sure it hasn’t possibly spread anywhere else
