It looks so good. What a journey. I imagine all urges to mate are gone. Hence no patroling. It may also mellow him out like a fixed cat. So thesechanges to his patterns may be a normal reaction to the surgery and losing that part of him. Just a thought. I know you are watching and worrying at any changes that occurr. The new donnie may be a bit mellower and chill but good all the same.

2.5 months since prolapse / amputation. Donnie’s doing well - Starting to patrol his area again. He is very eager to eat and drink. Pooping normally. I will still keep tabs on him for infection or related issues, but for now, he seems to be mostly healed up!

Its a sad day in the cham house… too cold out and time for everyone to stay indoors for (most) of the cold season. Donnie gets to live on the free range for his remaining time with us. He is the only cham that is not depressed today! Now the challenge of adding a zillion lights.
I noticed some … stuff… around Donnie’s vent. He just finished a full body shed - unclear if its shed, sperm plug, or something more. Going to clean it and see if I am able to gently remove it tonight. Hoping its not infection.

Forgot to update on what was recently hanging out of his butt. I gently removed it with tweezer - looks like a small internal scab he was shedding. His vent looks great but I can tell the internal skin is still healing (but appears to be healing well).
We had a week of nice weather - so the crew was back out this week/weekend. Gotta get those UVBs!

He is Ambanja, and has some really drastic color changes. He is my profile pic. Here’s some of his wild transitions (all adult changes after 2 years old).
When he came to me he was mostly teal with a few freckles of red.
Then turned emerald green for a few months:
Then a really dramatic red phase:
And today… now he switches between mostly red + blue, and vice versa.

Thank you! I see Dr. Gold at Chadwell Animal Hospital for most issues. If I need a second opinion, or a more urgent/specialized issue, I drive 2+ hours to see one of the vets at SEAVS in Northern VA. I would see them for every visit, if it weren’t for the distance. Dr. Stahl literally wrote the book on chams.

Donnie is doing great, but he picked up a little gular edema, which I think is from being outside nearly all summer. I dropped D3 all together, and dropped MV to 1x per month. So either still too much MV, or I need to greatly scale back the calcium (not that I dust that heavily). Gotta keep an eye on that as we move inside for winter. Have lucked out with weather here in MD - this weekend has been 75 degrees, and the gang is loving still being outside (despite their sad, mostly leafless trees). Next weekend lows in the 30s. That's MD weather for you!
