He's Missing!!!

I guess my outside enclosure had a hole in it and my cham found it. Now I'm out here looking for him. This really sucks. There is a huge tree in my backyard that I'm pretty sure he's in. I'm confident that he'll live until winter comes. Is there any way to lure him out? If he is at the top of the tree, I'm screwed cause that thing is hella high. I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

your best bet to find him is going ot be at night

is it a veiled?

usually chams are very light in color when they sleep and reflect light, so get your flashlight out and be patient

the first 48 hours are going to probably be your best bet rather than a couple months from now, even though he may still hang around, its best to search a lot when you absolutely know he is close.


if there are any bright lights such as street lights around, he may also seek those because of the bugs they attract as well as the warmth, light etc

good luck, be patient, and most of all remember how closely you will need to look, take your time!

yup - flashlight at night is your best bet.

If you have any flowering trees, especially wiht pink, red or yellow flowers, an dhe's a veiled - look there.

He is a veiled. I was out there earlier with a flash light. But I also need binoculars because if he went to the very top of the tree, it is hard to see him without binoculars. I'll need one of those construction cranes to get him. Do you think he will be at the top or at the lower limbs?

he will probably be a little higher than the middle...also i'm sure by the way you posted it that you searched well, but i don't even want to tell you how many times a month i go to a cage and cant find a cham, only to empty everything out and still not find him, freak, and then find him right in front of me in a plant

so, with that being said, after you empty his cage out and search for him, put everything back in so if he is in a plant, you didn't set him free thinking he already got out, but that info is more for other people, you seem like you know whats going on lol

I guess you can try putting a cup of crickets nearby the bottom to lure him down.

I lost a Jackson one time and the reason I found her was that I found a chameleon cricket poop on the hood of my truck. I have a huge tree that hangs over my driveway. They have to find sun in the morning if you don't find it tonight.

The scenario keeps getting worse. I just remembered seeing a hawk circling my house this afternoon. The hawk lives near me and I hope I find my cham before he does. Also there are two squirrels that live in the tree. Do you think they will mess with him?

I don't think you have to worry about squirrels unless they are starving. They might even give the chameleons position away. I have wooded property so It was difficult for me. But if you have one or two trees you should be able to find him. Also check the bushes sometimes they like to hide in them.

i have this bird problem too i live on a lake and a bird santuary with 5000 acres of woods and swamp across the street.


the problem is these birds can hear crawling from a very long way away not to mention very acute perception.

and also i can testify that they love to swoop chameleons

i dunno whether its the size or color or smell but they will swoop the hell out of your cham by his spine and fly off and you'll just be standing there like oh $h!t

I don't know how your land is laid out but try and look at it from the chams point of view, he would have probably gone to the first bush or tree to seek refuge. I hope you find him. Good luck. David

I hope you find him. Taz, my Jackson, decided to take a walk while I was sunning him in the backyard. I spent 3 hours looking for him. I ended up in the tallest tree climbing around. Of course, there he was looking at me as if there was nothing wrong. I was worried that the cats near my house would get him. To be honest, he had run off a couple of times. I attribute it to my putting a ficus in the backyard with a mister so he was comfortable.

I've read several posts on this forum about chams that escaped into yards and were found hours, days, even months (yes, months) later. Safe and sound. Don't give up! He's out there somewhere.

IF I remember correctly, one guy lost his cham and it was found in the neighbor's yard about 4 months later!

Hi,
I lost my jackson once, letting him sun outside. I found him by using binoculars in the early morning searching at the tops of the trees knowing he would look for warmth after a cool night. It took a few days and a really big ladder! He was in the neighbors tree sunning himself and I used a really long stick to gently prod him off the tree and onto the stick.So don't give up and keep looking!

I couldn't find him this morning. But I did see three hawks fly over my backyard. Do you think he could have climbed a wooded fence and go to a neighbors yard? I'll have to go buy some binoculars in order to see the top of the tree. But I don't want the neighbors thinking I'm a peeping tom. This sucks.

Sorry to hear that. I also lost my female panther in a similar hole situation. She actually went and mated with my male through the cage and climbed up a tree about 40 yards away. Through my yard and over a gravel parking lot right up the tree. Dodalah is right about placing a cup of crix or what ever to lure him down. I live where there are tons of trees and this is what I did. I went got tons of crix and deli cups. Place a few crx in them and place in all the trees and bushes around. Even if you dont see it come and eat if the crix are gone out of one cup you will know where he is at. I found mine 2 days later about 2 hours before I was leaving to go to new mexico. I live in maryland. Just keep searching I have confidence you will find it.

Oh and about the neighbors hahahahahahaha Yeah mine thought I was crazy till I told them I lost my 300 dollar reptile. Just let them know and see if you can search in there yard
