HOw do you know if your cham is dying?

Just as many people will say CO2 is inhumane as freezing.
Some people will never euthanize anything. I am not trying to persuade anyone, just stating my opinion on options for an animal that is suffering and may not make it.

When you see X's form over its eyes.

I agree with Kenya...try and have some humanity and if you dont have anything constructive to say then don't. Comments like that are not welcome. Blackbetty is going thru a time that I wouldn't wish on any cham or pet owner.

Blackbetty I really can't comment on what you are going thru as I have not been there. I have had health problems with 1 of my chams but nothing to this extent. Please just make it a priority to get your cham to a vet tomorrow that knows chams (if she survives the night) and try to give her her privacy. The reason she probally had her 'spaz' attack tonight is because she didnt want to be touched as she is so ill and just left alone. Most chams dont like us when they are 100% healthy and when sick they need to be left alone as much as possible to avoid too much stress.

I have my fingers & toes are crossed for you....hopefully she will be ok.

"Some amphibians and reptiles, however, may breathe too slowly or be able to hold their breath for long periods of time making other methods of euthanasia preferable."...right from the link provided by Kenya.

Do you have a better way to then? I know that going to the vet is preferable but many people can't this time of night or are very far from the vet. I was just trying to help. :\

My vet euthanized my poor Dory. She was so sick and full of yolk. It was heart breaking, but not more heart breaking than watching Chuck die in my hands suffering.

I too wouldn't be able to freeze my cham personally.... a small shot and her eyes are lay to rest works better for my heart and mind. Of course, it also cost me a lot more. Each his own... best of luck buddy with your cham. Hopefully she feels better.

Thank you guys. I didnt mean to cause a dispute. She is still alive, ver much so. Still dragging her legs. I didnt hear back from the reptile person here in town. I am going to call the vet first thing when it opens. Someone said you can get oral calcium at a pharmacy. Is that something you need a Rx for or can i get something OTC at like Walgreens? Yea, this sucks. I didnt think she was going to make it through the night but she did and she wasn't as cold this morning as she was last night. I killed all the lights last night. I moved her up to the heat spot this morning and put some superworms in her feeder. The tank on its side is only about 12-14 inches now so the UVB should cover the space. Those pics on my file are from yesterday. She was still using her back legs in the afternoon and then not anymore in the evening. Here, Ill u/l a few more I took in the last 2 days so you guys can see and tell me what you think. I want to save her but I dont want to put her through anymore stress if its a lost cause. I have only had her about 5 weeks now.

This girl can be saved! Just get her to a qualified vet.
From the previous posts, she sounded really out of it.
I apologize with the euthanizing talk earlier. It was premature on my part.

no. She just laid a month ago, within a week of me getting her. Would that cause her to drag her back legs? Should I try putting her in a bucket with the 50sand.50 soil and see if she does something?

Its okay. I know you were just trying to help. I had her in my hands but I just couldnt do it. I felt it wasnt time yet.. and maybe rightfully so. If she doesnt have MBD and gets an injection, will it harm her?

Well, im screwed. I just called the vet and the only vet in clarksville who has Any inkling of reptiles is gone for the weekend! I dont have the option to get her to nashville today. There are no other vets in Clarksville available that have a clue about anything..Ill try to put her in a bucket with a mixture and see if she digs. I havent seen her trying, but Ill try anything!!

I would get a friend, neighbor, relative or someone to drive you to the vet. Your girl is in need of a vet ASAP. Put her in the laying been, I don't know much about laying but I think they can have eggs again....maybe some of the breeders here will chime in.

OKay I put her in one and she just wants to climb out.. Now let me ask this.. what should her vent look like? She cant use her back legs so they just hang there..her vent seems to be..exposed? Like..enlarged? I dont know if thats just because her legs are hanging down stretching it? Her stomach alternates between squishy (like liquidy) and hard. Unfortunately the odds are against me. Im new here so I dont have any friends, my neighbors are deployed, my relatives are 800 miles away.....Im stranded!

Agreed - that article looks like something written by Dr. Kevorkian. Even more morbid is I felt compelled to read the entire thing

I mainly just stared at the pics and couldnt picture my little girl on there staring at me.:(

She is back to hanging out under the stump again. I saw her drink some water off the leaves, but she still isn't moving. Is it normal for chams to move "away" from the heat light? Its not that hot and the other side is free of it but she keeps going under this stump into almost completely darkness. I cant help but feel she is trying to find a place to die.:(
