HOw do you know if your cham is dying?

Has she been without a UVB light most of the time you have had her? Have you dusted her insects the whole time you have had her?

Has she been pooping lately?

You said she laid eggs about a month ago...when you owned her or before you got her? Did she lay them and bury them?

Ive had her for about 5 weeks, she laid them within a week of me getting her, 18 of them. And Yes, she buried them. The previous owner said she bought her at 6months from a pet store. She said the whole 6 months she owned her, she didnt shed or lay egss at all and she has done both within my care. She has been with a UVB light the whole time in my care BUT she was not given one at her previous owners, at least its not what was sent with me. What was in the fixture was a GE fluorescent bulb. She has pooped at least once in the last week. Appeared normal, just smaller quantity. No undigested food.

She is currently sitting there with her eyes closed. I sprayed the tanka nd she barely flinched. Im just pretty much waiting it out at this point....

I just put Betty int he freezer. I did all I can and I feel good about that. She was just laying there, her stomach hard and her legs completely limp with her eyes closed.. Thank you all so much for your help..I know its not my fault but it still hurts,, alot..RIP Black Betty,. Youll be missed......

You did all you could do. I'm so sorry for your loss and admire your dedication. Hope stuff gets better.

Dying cham

you will know your cham is dying if its tail is straightened out instead of rolled, eyes are closed, and a general dull colour change. Hope that helps, is your cham on its way?:(

She has been int he freezer for an hour. Yea, you can read what Ive gone through.. She was fading and I couldnt bear to watch her. Her tail was hard and unsable but she hasnt even tried in days.. Thank you all..I still crying randomly..Ugh..

you are wayyyy more brave than i am. i feel so sorry for you. ugh.

It was sooo not easy.. but I could see her just laying there suffering.. Gosh, tearing up again.. so Just did it quick.. I just keep telling myself that it was time..although part of me keeps screaming htat maybe I shoulda just kept trying... but i had no more options and I felt like she was letting me know she couldnt handle anymore...UGH!!! :(

This is good advice though to orig answer my question.. Thank you.:)

I am sorry for your loss. I hope you will try again at some point when you are ready. You did well and seem like a good cham owner so I think that you will do fine in the future.

Thanks Kenya. Yea, I started anew thread about which Cham is best for a new owner, so if you have any input that would be great.:) And thank you everyone.. Im not looking forward to removing her fromt he freezer and burying her.:(

how old

how old is blackbetty??? if she is old ,and she has had a happy life that means your a good cham owner..... i fell so bad for you it is so sad;)

i thought chams need heat and light 24/7. well thats what i think:confused:

No the lights need to be off at night , they need to cool off and have a dark period to sleep. lights shouldn't be on more than 12 hours. They should actually match the natural light cycle out side.

Agreed. For chams to go into deep sleep and rejuvenate properly, they NEED the temp drop at night. Some montane species can even go down into the high fifties and be fine. A house almost never gets that cold because of the comfort of the human animals in it. "Infa-Red" night bulbs are actually pretty bad for your cham in the sense of inhibiting their sleep and a waste of energy.

Black betty was a little over 1 year old I was told when I bought her a month and ahalf ago from Craigslist where she resided in a closet. And Id like to think Im a good cham owner because I gave her abetter month and ahalf than she had for a year. I loved her and truly cared for her and am still devastated I know in the AM when I go to bury her, I will cry like a baby.

This girl can be saved! Just get her to a qualified vet.
From the previous posts, she sounded really out of it.
I apologize with the euthanizing talk earlier. It was premature on my part.

I'm so happy to see this. I was freaking out at the first post suggesting she put the chameleon in the freezer. This time I decided to read through before commenting. This chameleon looks like she can be rehabilitated.

Whew!!!

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see she had passed. My condolences to you.
