How do you separate roach nymphs from the colony?

I have had a pretty large colony of discoids for a few years and usually feed the half grown ones to my adult panthers. Now I would like to start feeding the really small nymphs to my babies. I hate trying to dig thru the whole thing trying to pick out the tiny ones. Is there a tip anyone has to make this process easier?? I think the only thing I have read is to use the two 5 gallon buckets stacked with holes drilled in the bottom of the one on top.....

Go buy a cheap collander. make sure it has holes as large as the babies you want to fall through. happily sifting. Just how I do it.

Chuck, I wish I could!!! I have developed an allergy to them so I try to handle them so I try to not handle them as often anymore

I can try the collander tho!

Don't they use their nasty, scratchy legs to climb out of the colander though? I have often wondered how to get the small ones out to keep them separate. The adults freak me out so much though!

Yes they try to climb out. I cover the colander with a plate, it also makes it easier to hold on to, I don't need roaches crawling up my arm!!!

I don't want their horrid legs anywhere near me! That's a great idea to put a plate on top! They are still nasty though, lol!

I use a custom DIY bin system. Basically its a 64 qt bin with 1/4 inch holes drilled in the bottom then place inside another 64qt bin. Then I just pour all the adults into the bin with the holes and let them sit for a while. Most of the babies will find their way to the bottom (holeless bin), then I put the adults back into their bin.
